Workers find king of the ant hills

Forestry workers in ancient woodland in Northumberland believe that they have uncovered the biggest ant hill in Britain.

The hill is five and half feet high, three times larger than the average, and is home to more than 500,000 northern wood ants.

Steve Morris, who oversees 30 forests in the area, said: "I honestly could not believe the sheer scale. Wood ants are only a centimetre long and to build such a nest must have taken millions of ant hours."
