1. I'm from Kansas - close to Wichita and...

I never understood that mascot. Maybe because I don't find a shock of wheat all that threatening. Of course, University of Kansas has the imaginary Jayhawk as their mascot, and it's not frightening either.

Thank goodness I went to Pittsburg State University in the southeastern corner of the state. They're the gorillas, and they can at least trash luggage (if it's not Samsonite).

A high school classmate went to Washburn University in Topeka. They're the Fighting Ichabods, whose mascot is an old man rolling up his sleeves. Ooooooh, scary! I asked her, "Why don't they replace Ichabod with something a bit more threatening? How about the Washburn Fragile Porcelain Mice?"

2. Where exactly are you from?

I was born and raised in El Dorado, and WSU (and BCCC) are my alma mater(s). My nephew goes to Pittsburg State.

At least the Fighting Ichabod may perhaps be liable for assault, if not battery!

3. Clearwater, Kansas

Small farming community 10-15 miles southwest of Wichita. Less than 2000 people. Wichita was the place to go on the weekends.

My mom moved to Wellington when I went to Pitt then moved to Augusta where one of my sisters live. My niece will be attending BCCC this year.

4. Who says there aren't liberals in Kansas!

I loved BCCC; I went to both Butler in El Dorado (graduated in 1982) and took several classes at the Andover campus. Ah, the memories!

5. There's at least a few

My sister in Augusta isn't, but my other sister who is now in Kansas City would be considered one, although she's not political. My brother, who's a lawyer in Pitt, is at least socially liberal. I don't think either Mom or Dad (passed away) has ever voted for a republican, a good friend who went to both high school with me and then Pitt later on is very liberal, as is his family, and one of my two best friends, who I still keep up with, has become very liberal in the past 5 years.
