Ever have a friend, a pretty close friend, whose name you didn't know?
I took a course at UT of Dallas back in the late 80s, with about 50 women. I was the only male. One woman who sat next to me was about my age, and we wound up talking a lot about the course, and about politics, and our marriages and stuff (nothing even slightly seedy). We had become friends without ever really being introduced, so I never asked her her name. After a while, of course, I was too embarrassed to ask her name, since I should have already known it.

We ran into each other a lot on campus after that semester, and always talked like old friends. We'd both say "Hey, you!" and "Hi, how are you?" but it was clear she didn't know my name, either, and she never asked. We would hang out at the library, or alter our plans to meet each other between classes or during class breaks when we were in the same building. But we never learned each other's names.

Am I really weird, or is this not too unusual, or both?

8. Don't feel dumb
It was the basis for a Seinfeld episode. Jerry met a woman at a grocery store and started to date her, but he couldn't remember her name. She told him that it rhymed with a female body part, but he couldn't figure it out until after she figured out that he didn't know her name and walked out on him.

12. I liked Seinfeld, but didn't watch TV much then. I didn't forget her name
I never knew it. And I never told her mine, so she didn't know mine, either. I always figured the professor would call her name once and I'd learn it, but she never did. Never called mine, either.

2. Some people are good with names others aren't.
I'm not! So I don't think you're weird, but it would be good to find out!

7. I didn't forget her name, I never knew it.
I kept thinking the professor would call her by name and I'd pick it up, but the professor never did. I just never learned it.

13. I am horrible with names
So yeah. It has happened to me...

I have a plan so cunning you can hang a tail on it and call it a mouse...

When I am with Friend A who doesn't know Friend B and we are approaching I'll say "I don't know her name and I should. We'll talk for a bit and then introduce yourself. Prompt her for her name."
So it goes along and Friend A says "I'm sorry, we haven't been introduced. I am Friend A. And you are...?"
"Oh! Friend B. I am Friend B"
Me: "Oh! You two don't know each other? How RUDE of me!"

This works to get BOTH peoples' names if you need to.
