Do they make toddler sized Gibson SG electric guitars?

'Cause I think I'm going to be needing one soon for La Petite Savalasette (age 3). We were playing some uptempo tunes by the Velvet Underground and the Reverend Horton Heat at a high volume, and she was rockin' out with much enthusiasm. Hoppin' up and down, running around, spinning in circles, and dancing. I think I've got a budding rockstar here.

Then to top it off, when I switched the music to some old hip-hop, she says "Oh, look! It's old school!"

but my seven year old twins are really getting into the idea of playing instruments and my son also wants to play an electric guitar. I know they come quite small. Daughter wants to play keyboard and eventually violin. Husband is cringing at the thought of the whole endeavor, but I'm pushing for it!

4. A Gibson SG is a rather small guitar to begin with

and as a small sized person with small hands, I can say an SG "as is" would be fine for a young girl to start out playing. They do make a mini Les Paul, but she'll outgrow a miniguitar so fast, as most kids seem to do. More girls rocking is all the better for me. In my hometown, I'm the only female I know who plays guitar. It'd be great to get her rocking as soon as possible. She's got a good rock musician look to her too.

I bought my sons a couple of 1/2 and 3/4 size guitars. They never used 'em.

However, my younger son plays quite well at 14, but he's about 6'1". They grow up fast.

And SG's are quite small to begin with, as you say. I've got a '62 Epi reissue. It's like a little toy compared to something with some length and weight, like a Tele.

7. Not to mention the fact that

it's too hard to get the intonation set correctly on those 1/2 and 3/4 size guitars. It discourages younger players from practicing because it makes it too hard to sound "in tune" no matter what they try. I'd much rather see a young one learn on the "real thing" so they can get the enjoyment of actually learning on a good guitar that'll become their friend, comfort, good habit, and source of lifelong enjoyment than to see them all discouraged because they can't make it sound like the music they enjoy. A full size guitar is best. And yes, a Gibson SG is good for small hands yet it can be intonated right and tuned right and sounds great. I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing the Epiphone SG that was at the guitar store when I worked there. My ex-boyfriend grabbed it right out from under me and layed it away. Him and his disposable cash. I wish I could have gotten that guitar. It was only $150. It played so sweet too and was practically brand new.

8. reading with interest

just checking in so I can see updates to this thread easily. I've been thinking about getting LK a guitar, he was pestering me about one for days after we watched Live8. I don't know the first thing about them (the plan would be to get two and learn alongside him like Suzuki violin lessons) so this is a big help for me. :)

11. I think Fender Mustangs came with a shortened scale

I don't know if they're hard to find now but the old ones are very decent guitars. I have a Gibson Flying V that seems to have a short scale and I never play it for that reason. I think Rickenbackers also are scaled down guitars with shorter distances between the frets. And the Silvertone guitars also were smaller.

But it looks like your daughter at her age is going to need something much smaller yet, not only because of the size of her hands but also because of the weight of even short scaled electric guitars. I would suggest starting her out with a lightweight classical guitar hand made for a child if you want her to play on something quite small but with good intonation, just to learn the fundamentals. They come in half size and even quarter size. If you want something made with precision and good intonation, it's probably going to cost you more than $500. And I think it might be easier for your daughter to first get around on nylon strings instead of steel, although she wouldn't be able to play at high volume for awhile.

Another possibility is the Applause brand made by Ovation (I think they're the Korean-made Ovations). They make a half size steel string acoustic light-weight round back guitar that's supposedly suitable for very young kids. Those will probably set you back about $200.
