William Pitt got bit by fire-ants
I guess people are following his blogging, but I couldn't help but snicker a little...I feel for him though cause they hurt, and they don't die after one bite, the keep going and going like that stupid bunny.

Little fire-ant bastards are evil, I was bitten about 60 times on my left shoulder when camping. leave nasty little pussy white bumps for like 2-3 days, sometimes can even scar.

I've got two colonies in my front yard right now. (Plano, TX) Sometimes they will kill each other off if you drag a stick between the two mounds. Hopefully half are gone when I get off work.

Post your fire-ant story for Will :)

10. Yes, you keep watching to see if they'll come alive
like that movie "Them". I don't like giant ants. There's an old B movie with Joan Collins in it about an island of giant ants too. Creep city.

4. I spent more money on fire ant treatment for my yard
then fertilizer. They are vicious little bastards. If you see two mounds, take a shovel full from one and put in the other. They'll fight to the death.

5. I found out I had a hole in my shoe the hard way
when I was living in Jacksonhole, FL

I was waiting for my bus and noticed that my leg was itching

I pulled up my pant leg and had fire ants crawling up my leg, biting me

it wasn't fun

I then checked my shoe and saw that I had a hole that the fire ants were using to crawl up my freaking leg

I tossed those shoes when I got home

have a gallon of white vinegar on hand

whenever bit by fire ants, immediately douse the affected area in white vinegar, it interacts w. the formic acid and you do not get the bumps, but you can't wait, it doesn't work once the bump is already formed

i've been doing this for 2 decades & despite many ant bites i rarely get a reaction

if i try to kid myself that i've built up tolerance to ant bites and don't stop what i'm doing and put on the white vinegar bam the raised bump is coming, sure as christmas

no reason to have a hand looking like that, white vinegar is sold cheaply by the gallon at any supermarket

some people use rubbing alcohol which doesn't work

9. My first encounter.............
was in Florida. I was looking at homes for sale and went into the back yard to have a look. I stood still for about 5 seconds until I felt something, looked down and saw about 20 of the little bastards all over my ankles and legs. I got bit probably 10 times and three years later I still have a few little spots where they nailed me.
Believe it or not, the insects in Florida were one of the reasons I moved back to NY last year. Between the fire ants, love bugs, spiders, palmetto bugs, roaches and thousands of others that are all vying to take up residence inside your body, it became too much for me. That and the culture shock. Florida and I did NOT get along on a cultural level either. I'm SOOOO happy to be back in good old NY. There's no place like home! ;)

12. While living in Florida
I was helping a neighbor move some furniture. I stepped on a small mound of fire ants (wearing shorts and sandals) and was bit more times than I could count.

When I started having trouble breathing is when I discovered that I was allergic.
