While I was waiting for 'news from the front' from our own William Rivers Pitt ... I decided to do a search on my name.

I found 220 results on the "repeat the search with the omitted results included" ... as I was scrolling through the pages thinking 'this is good, this is very good' I reached page # 7 with a link to PDA ... not bad for 23 pages of results, I thought to myself.

THEN ~ I decided to do a search on my name ... Joan Alpern ...and there IT was ...a link to the most vile site I've ever 'looked into' where I was being discussed along with several other DUers.

Do you know what an internet search on you will show ?

Actually, I find it relaxing that I haven't really pissed off too many freaks - but then my ego kicks in, and I say, "Well, I haven't had much notice" either . . .

BTW, I did have communications with the one who took me to task for being wrong, saying that I even corrected myself - and he started using fowl language right away. After realizing that I was feeding his ego, I swore I would never darken their site again. And have never since. So I don't know (and don't care) if they've run any more about me . . .

show up online. It doesn't matter if they are in the name of the website, the keywords, your screen name or in posts you made. If you used the phrase "ooga booga" then Googled that it would no doubt pull up the exact post you used it in.

Regarding your link, the blog noted that the more time people spend online the more interested they become in politics. I can say that in my case that was definitely true. I had very little interest in politics before I began surfing the Net. Now I DU most nights and have subscriptions to numerous political magazines.

my username is a common word, and I did find that some right-wing guy shares my username and continually bashes DU. Not too disconcerting, since 12 years there was some guy on alt.punk that I used to have to fight with for my username.
