Poll question: Will I annoy everyone if I post about how extremely happy I am?
You know, if I start talking about how great my son is, how I'm finally writing on a daily basis, and how I have this amazing, beautiful, intelligent, charming, warm, geeky girlfriend who's coming to see me next week? Will that bug you?

If it does, I won't post it. :D

Note to SB: All right, all right! I got the hint! Christmas is coming!:loveya:

1. Love is wonderful. I should say this...
Love is wonderful. I'm in love myself with the greatest guy in the world.

But...expressing love on a public message board shouldn't be taken to extremes. Others don't appreciate it that much. I'm specifically thinking of two former DU'ers who were positively nauseating about it. :puke:

Just my .03, Finn. Please take it in the friendly spirit it was given. :-)

2. I understand, but...
all other emotions are expressed very openly on this message board. More often than not, those emotions are negative and angry. What's wrong with expressing happiness once in a while?

I won't go overboard with it (learned that lesson already). But I spent a lot of time and energy on DU in the past posting for pity when things weren't going well for me. Strangely, no one ever complained about that.

Today I want to shout my happiness from the rooftops. Is that so bad?

:hi:

4. Here's one way to look at it...
Based on this quote from Dane Cook:
"When you don't have love, it feels like there's this big party going on and everyone was invited but you. You just happen to be walking by the party...it's raining...and you're just like 'oh, I wasn't invited to this party'."

So to unloved folk, it's like saying "oh man, you should have been at that party last night, it was so crazy!"

You feel good about it, but the people you're professing the parties awesomeness to is just thinking "I want in on that. Why am I never invited to these parties?" and they just start feeling bad.

5. On one level, I completely understand that.
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 05:01 PM by Finnfan
And I certainly don't want to hurt anyone.

On another level, I went through many, many years in a loveless marriage feeling pretty sorry for myself. But I never, ever begrudged anyone else their happiness. I never made anyone feel like they couldn't talk about it.

So while I understand the concept on an intellectual level, on an emotional level I guess I don't.

Anyhow, I'll keep it to a minimum.

6. Like I said, that's just one way to look at it
My point was just that this is how some (not all) single people might feel about such things.

For the record, it doesn't bother me at all. I think it's great for you, your son and Sarah. :)

3. Awww, it's kinda cute
Go ahead post away. I started one about how happy I was that not a one of my kids are living with me now. (All adults, at least age wise) I'm still happy about that one, and none of them have come back again. Yet.

I wish this for every single one of us. I really do. The world would be a much better place is everyone felt the way I feel right now. :loveya:

8. Go for it - I like happy posts
And boasting of love is wonderful - especially when you can boast that you are able to love so completely and that you feel love in return.

And this is from an uninvolved individual. I don't feel left out, it gives me hope!

Blessings to you and your love! :grouphug:

Ultimately it doesn't matter though? If this place disappeared tomorrow, would it change anything now? Nope. DU encompasses, what? About .000001% of our total communication. We're not some flirty internet thing. We're a part of each other's lives in a rather major way now, so don't worry what anyone thinks. We both know what we've been through. I know you. You know me. So do the other people in our lives we care for and that's what matters most of all.

It's a good thing people don't know the reality of it all. Then we'd really make 'em :puke:. A twisted Mike and Carol Brady.

How can I not be happy? How can I not go to sleep now with a huge smile on my face?

Here's to the other 99.999999% of our communication. :toast:

People that can't deal with your happiness are jealous.
