Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 12:27 AM by barb162
I wrote a nasty email telling them to drown themselves. If they want to increase their ratings, they can do it all kinds of ways, but to mention what they mentioned, is sick of and by itself, even though I think they wouldn't do it.

My point is they are mentioning animal cruelty and that is sick. I'd like to see them get fined and the jerk who mentioned it fired. Where this sick publicity stunt would totally backfire on them/shut them down

17. saying you will be doing something
that is a crime (cruelty to animals, killing a person, whatever,eg) It doesn't have to happen...saying you are going to do it is enough to get your ass nailed under FCC rules

"Broadcasting false information concerning a crime or a catastrophe violates the rules of the Federal Communications Commission" (FCC)

22. Methinks she just did...
State law says that animals may only be destroyed by lethal injection or gassing. Intentionally drowning an animal is considered cruelty, and would be prosecuted as the CRIME that it is.

Perhaps I should ask WTF it is youdon't get about the post you replied to in the first place.

Let me spell it out for you: killing a dog by any method other than euthanasia or gassing is illegal, making it animal cruelty -> animal cruelty is a crime -> what they are doing is illegal. Therefore, not only is it a crime, but even if they are only "threatening" this crime, that is in violation of FCC rules, per the DUer's post which you said "show me the rule." She copied and pasted it right there for you.

Do you get it now, or shall I type slower?

On edit: animal cruelty IS a crime, not "it" a crime :)

32. I don't think you are "outwitted" at all friesianrider, and there are..
...problems with this that many are ignoring, or haven't seen. Even if this is a hoax, which I'm sure it may be, its called, "yelling FIRE in the middle of a theater". And yes, there are laws against that, which some don't seem to remember. If anyone would like to go back to that thread, and read what the original poster said, they stated further down that so many people responded to this locally, that the 911 number was busy. What if a real emergency had been going on in this town?

The "shock jock" tactics in this case were inappropriate for many reasons. And I've just illustrated one above, though I have no doubt, someone will say, that too, is overreacting.

Again, you don't scream "fire" in a crowded theater.

53. I'm glad you find it funny....
...obviously, you didn't go back to the original poster, as I said some should - primarily you - and see what he said. He said so many people were calling into the 911 over this that the line was tied up and busy. Thats what screaming "fire" is in a theater. And if someone who legitimately needed first aid had needed help at that time, which could even have resulted in their death, they may not have been able to get through. But roll around on the floor some more, since its such a laugh riot for you. I'm delighted you can find humor in anything....:eyes:

My several animals are all rescues and I remain active in rescue. I think the idea of even mentioning stuff like this is repulsive at best. It is a crime to do it and your post is also right about the quoted FCC material.

43. Good for you! :)
I too think this isn't the least bit funny, nor do I think this "proves" or "draws attention to" anything. The accidental drowning of a child is tragic and sad absolutely, but the adoption of a dog with the intention to drown it intentionally is just sick and proves absolutely nothing.

I know it did not happen of course, but joking about a crime (and in some states animal cruelty is a felony) isn't funny.
