What are the best Rolling Stones albums to start with?
All I have right now are a couple of greatest hits comps and I want to start buying their actual albums.

for me... But I later discovered Sympathy for Devil, Street Fightin' Man, Can't Always Get What You Want...

Beggar's Banquet would be a good 3rd. From a big Stones fan.

7. Aftermath, Beggars Banquet
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 02:08 PM by Zuni
I also like their early albums---their attempts as 20 yr olds to play blues. Kind of dated, but a lot of energy

Englands Newest Hitmakers and Now!

check out their cover of Howlin' Wolf's "little Red Rooster"

but Aftermath is their best all around album. Under My thumb and Paint it Black are on there.

21. That is the best era of Stones music
mid 60s. Basically the era covered by the first half of "Hot rocks" and the first few songs on Side 2 like jumping Jack Flash and Street Fighting Man.

I personally think the Stones went downhill after Brian jones died. They became too cock-rocky

17. there are some good songs on there
2000 Light Years is a damn good song

Still, compared to the albums before and after it, Aftermath and Beggars Banquet, it is quite weak

20. it was the times
the Stones, like everybody else, tried the 'sike-ay-delic" thang,,,,
it was actually a good album to listen to in altered states....uh, er, so I've been told....but yes, nowhere near as good as Beggars Banquet, when the Stones came back to earth....; nor as good as Between the Buttons, which I think preceded Satanic,, unless you count FLOWERS<,, which was basically outtakes and throwaways, but not bad nevertheless,,

18. Yes, it's my favorite Stones album
I love every second of the music on that one, which is more than I can say for most of their albums. (Hey, even the Beatles had a couple of songs I don't like, such as "Come Together.")

41. Damn straight
it's the best. Ya know some outtakes Ry Cooder did during pre-production inspired a lot of Keith's licks from it? Apparently Cooder was pissed he didn't get official credit for it.

29. Rolling Stones wish list
1. Beggar's Banquet (My personal fav)
2. Let It Bleed (Sometimes my personal fav)
3. Sticky Fingers (Rock and Roll)
4. Exile on Main Street (Extreme Rock and Roll)
5. Aftermath (True classic)
6. 12 X 5 (early, great)
7. Flowers (A "bastardized" album full of great songs)
8. Their Satanic Majesties Request (It's weird and disparaged by many but I enjoy it)
9. The Rolling Stones Now (Best Blues album by them - at their best)
10. Tattoo You (Just when you had given up they keep you rockin' with this one)
11. Steel Wheels (And this one put it all together again)

34. The Rolling Stones NOW!
If for nothing else than Richard's guitar on the Chuck Berry tune "Down The Road Apiece."

Oh, and "Let It Bleed" ain't bad, either. :)

Sadly, it's all downhill from "Goat's Head Soup", however.
