Since Night Hawks is the theme
I call this: 3:33 am

the way it is

ugly
beautiful

nights up late when
streets buzz with homeless

a guy once cut a pimp’s ear off
tossed it in an apartment complex laundry room
To rot like the hurt he brought on his whores

crying

aching

the smile of a child on a bus
coloring innocence in her face
and her mother cannot pay her bills

this old Hispanic man with a walker
who hobbles like someone’s dad

there are moments when even the youngest become old
and the happiest among us become wrought with grief
stung by tears so great the pain is ingrained in our bones

oblivious
conscious

the world is so indifferent
the world is so ignorant
the world is so full of hate

I want it to be better
I do not think it can be

at least not most of the time

some kids have a better chance
at prison then a high school diploma

there is the mobility myth that tells
us we have won the lottery by
being born in a certain country

nobody I know has cashed in

I fuck the same person every morning in my memory

without touch
without feeling
without mercy

sometimes there is so much emptiness
that nothing you can do will ever fill it

alcohol
drugs
food

an addict sweating out meth beads
months after she has gone clean
sweeping them off her sheets every morning

incognizant
cognizant

women make more money then men
in the porn industry
which is about the only field they do

raging
calm

there is no way to measure the regret
that has built up over the years of our lives

no way to understand why it has

the clock ticks 3:33 am
and the diner is open

late night coffee
permeates the air

we are so indifferent
we are so ignorant
we are so full of hate

I wish that things were fair
nothing more or nothing less

Lincoln should have let the South secede

Washington should have admitted to
telling a lie just to get it over with
so we would not expect fucking much

this is how I think

this is how I am

I am not sure what to do
or how anything will turn out

right or wrong
or nothing or neither

only this is more the beginning
than the end

1. Good stuff....
Raw ragged emotion with a touch of bittersweet cynism....

But that's just me....

Boy, you got a way with words....

2. oh I am quite cynical
no doubt about that. I don't even get all that exasperated anymore, haha.

But, certain emotions are still there too.

yeah, glad you liked it. As I said in my pm, I was never sure about putting myself into it. I gotta figure a few things out on that front. Thanks for reading it.

3. Here's a quote for you, my poetic friend . . .
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 05:53 AM by Heidi
and I think it's very Nighthawkish: "There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." (Leonard Cohen)

Thank you for sharing your poem.

25. Somehow I missed this quote earlier
Read over this too fast.

It is very Nighthawkish. Love it. :) (so you must be the light I would think)

4. Thank you, Wetzelbill.

there's much one can learn by the 3:33 am musing of a man

5. Thank you so much, my dear Wetzelbill.....
Your poem even feels like 3:33 am....lonely, cynical, lost, grieving for lost love....

To use the old cliche...a night without pity...or was it world? I can't remember...

Beautifully done....more, please...

7. Good morning, my dear Heidi!
It's good, but a little strange, to see you about the Lounge at this hour!

I'm so used to chatting with you near midnight my time...

Let me see...it must be just after 6pm your time....is that right?

Hope your day has gone well!

I agree completely about Wetzelbill...a true Nighthawk, and a very talented one as well...

Probably catch you later, my dear! :loveya:

11. Hi, gf!
Nearly 7 p.m. here, and I've just put homemade pizza into the oven: homemade pizza sauce with Roma tomatoes, garlic and all the spices from our garden, ham, Bell pepper, Portabella mushrooms, anchovies, Emmenthaler cheese and mozerella cheese. YUM!

13. Hey ~ now! That sounds really good.
It's 1 PM and hot as hell outside.

I've decided that it's the right time to start pricing wood stoves for this winter.

20. Good afternoon...as it is now past noon! My dear Joan!
Keep your distance, my dear...I'm recovering from my strenuous workout!

I enjoy posting while my poor legs recover from all the good/evil things I've done to them.....

Hope your day is good...

23. Good evening , Peggy. I'm sure you've rested a little by now.
A good workout at the gym is a beautiful thing.

I stayed home a puttered around putting away clean clothes. We had a massive storm so I turned off and unplugged my computer. We've had electrical storm related problems in the past.

I'm ordering an Italian sub sandwich for supper tonight.

How was your afternoon?

Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 06:23 PM by CaliforniaPeggy
But I'm in for the day...I'm tired a bit, I must confess...

That workout did me in...and then I went to the store and walked all over hell...carried in some of the groceries...put them away...

So when I'm done here, it's NAP TIME! :woohoo:

Roast chicken plus whatever I feel like for dinner...whew....

16. I was feeling quite reflective
last night. Reading some Bukowski and so on. Alone, maybe lonely, but I had the commonality of DU like the rest of the night crew. So I decided to write.

Yeah, I'll do some more here pretty soon. Glad you liked it. :)

18. I was surprised
it turned out decent. I thought there would be more grammar mistakes and typos. I never really post anything or show anything off unless it is edited several times first. It's rough though. I might finish it sometime over the course of the next few months or so. Glad you liked it. I'll finish reading the stuff from your pm's that you sent me too.

21. that's pretty much
why I wrote it. To think myself, and maybe get a few others to do so as well.

You sound busy. All your administative stuff and everything. I hope you get some time to kick back and relax this weekend.

I posted one here:

don't laugh too hard! Keep in mind that we were all dressed up and looking pretty because we were about to receive a medal. This was about the cleanest I ever was in the Corps. They always had my 'ass out in the grass' someplace hot and sticky.
