ahhhhh heat stroke. well THAT was fun!

its only 7000 degrees today and HUMID to beat the band. but it is ALSO tax-free weekend here in MA so BRILLIANT me decided THIS would be a great day to make the new garden beds and buy the plants we have been planning to buy. :eyes:

so, i've been out there since 7:30 this morning digging up sod, edging, digging, etc...

was going through water like crazy all morning but guess it wasn't enough.

my sweat started drying up on my arms. oh shit. i know THAT isn't good. stood up and the whole world started spinning.

made it into the AC and sat in the tub with cold water from the shower running down me for a half hour.

feeling better now but i think i'm done working for the day.

In all seriousness, I know what you mean. I went walking last week with the dog and both of us barely made it back home alive. I have never been so beaten down by the heat and sun in my life. I thought I was going to start seeing mirages. I wanted to knock on somebody's door and beg for water--and I was only a half a block from home by then. My legs felt like lead, each step was a chore. I have given up walking when the weather is that hot.

4. had a similar thing happen to me this summer too

of course, I was the idiot who umm, dehydrated himself the night before, so to speak.

went to my chemistry class, the a/c in the building was out, the sun had been beating on it all day. After the point where my skin got suddenly dry, I knew it was time to leave. Walked home, crossing the street to stay in the shade as much as possible, jumped in a cold shower. I went through about 3 liters of water that afternoon. It was freakin crazy!

That's one good thing about military training, you get to see everyone else collapse/crash and know what the symptoms look like

In my entire life, I've NEVER had air conditioning inside my home (I live in New York). At first because we couldnt afford air conditioners and the electric bills that went with it. Today we can afford it, but we dont have the proper windows for it. You're supposed to have a sash window (one that opens and closes up and down)to put an air conditioner in. Instead we have windows that slide open and closed, from side to side. We cant afford to have central air installed, nor can we afford portable air conditioners which are more expensive than window air conditioners. Nor can we afford to install new (sash) windows.

EVERY summer through my entire life I've had to put up with the sweltering heat and humidity inside my house. We do have fans, but that just blows the warm air at you. It doesnt do any good to open all the windows. If its 90 degrees outside my house, then its at least 95 inside my house, with the windows open.

The only time I can enjoy air conditioning is when I go to work, or to stores, places of business, or other peoples homes, that are air conditioned.

For once in my life I would LOVE to go through an entire summer in which I can enjoy air conditioning inside MY house.

We jury-rigged a/c units in by filling in the hole with plywood. Can't remember how we kept them anchored, but it worked and it was really worth it.
