I get motion sickness from playing FPS games

Grand Theft Auto, James Bond 007, etc....

It ruins the pleasure of trying to play video games. Amazingly enough, my brother can play for hours and hours and not feel a thing. But when it comes to me, only after a half hour (or less) of playing the same exact games, I begin to get dizzy, nauseous, and sweat begins to pour out of my forehead. I just need to turn off the computer and lay down.

I usually dont get motion sickness on boats, trains, cars, or buses (unless I'm trying to read something. On a train I can read with no motion sickness, but not in a car or bus)

Any solutions (besides "stop playing video games")?

1. I've only had that happen once

I threw up after a very intense 4 hour session of quake 2

Try different lighting in the room, I have this problem also.

and that cured it for the most part.

2. I've never been able to play a first-person game.

It only takes a couple of minutes before I get that dizzy, nauseous, and headachey feeling. It's the worst. And my husband is like your brother, he has no problem with it.

4. Couple of things...

First, how far away from the T.V. screen or monitor when playing these games? I have found that being too close to the screen, which is NOT good for the eyes, also can cause disorientation with your balance and inner ear not "adding up" with what your eyes are seeing. The point being that your brain crosses signals, you don't get motion sickness from actual being on moving objects, but usually from confusion between balance and what is seen by your eyes. In a train, boat, or car, for most people, the inner ear and your eyes are in sync, but this can't happen in a video game. Having distance will give your eyes something else to use, floor, edge of screen, etc. to focus on to keep you from suffering from motion sickness.

5. I sit very close to the monitor

Maybe a couple of feet. Give or take a few inches
