A halo or a ghost? Plus other Crawford pics from today.

Peace though a rainy windshield

See the flags?

Close up of two crosses.

Rainy crosses

Someone's sense of humor next to someone's plea for tolerance. This was on a fence next to Camp Casey.

4. The rain
Made it even harder to talk to anyone. I'm naturally shy (you may remember) around strangers, but with the rain driving everyone under their tents and into their cars, I hardly spoke to anyone at the camp, and only a few people at the Peace House. I did sacrifice my long-distance card for someone to do a phone interview. Hope it was a good one!

5. That stinks. I got to meet a lot of people, including Anne Wright,
Cindy and some of the other campers. Good people, all.

6. It was my fault.
I walked around taking pictures with my fancy new camera, which I was playing with trying to learn it, and I think people thought I was just a photographer.

It was still worth the trip. I'll probably go back out again if the camp hangs around for awhile.

2. That "ghost" kind of looks like the face of Jesus
With the leaves filling in most of the facial features.

He must be in support of ending the war as well. If you could just get a shot of a stain on the road that looks like the Virgin Mary, you would have Catholics by the ton down there siding with Cindy.

37. I'm not sure myself
It looks more like mist instead of an actual ghost photo. Here's a photo I took about two years ago and in it was a ghost.

I got tied up in Austin, so I got there after all the fun. The good side is I got there when it was overcast and raining, rather than 105 with the HI.

17. Here in Central Texas
we went the last five or six summers without a drop of rain from June until September, until last year, when it rained a little. This year is has rained constantly. Before the drought started, it rained so much during the summer that our lakes were flooding houses up on hills. During the drought the same lakes were so low the bottoms were showing at places, and floating piers wound up hanging off the edge of cliffs some forty feet above the waterline.

This part of Texas is known for its weather swings.

18. It reminded me of all those pictures that "prove" the existence of ghosts
I could tell when I took it that I would get that type of effect, because of the rain shining through the gap in the wet trees like that. I took a lot of pictures of that same shot, but I liked this one best. It looks like a human figure, and when I saw how it turned out, I thought of a ghost, Jesus, an angel, and a halo over the sign. (funny for an atheist, huh?)

30. ME TOO!!
When I first looked at the picture I thought, "it looks like "ectoplasm", but went back after seeing the rest of the BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS, and I really think it's more like Angels wings! Cindy deserves all the guardian Angels God can send her! I don't know if I've been a member long enough, or have enough posts to recommend for "greatest story" , but I'll try giving it a "kick" anyhow!!!O8) :kick:

21. Jobycom, your 'close up of 2 crosses" has the cross from this story:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4343893

Did you do that on purpose? Were you there when it happened? If so, was Mr. Qualls the "man in the white truck"?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4338915&mesg_id=4338915

Anyone who hasn't read these two stories, they will bring tears to your eyes.

I salute everyone at Camp Casey!

22. I read the stories after I got back. That's not why I took that picture
Two things drew me. First, the flowers by the back cross, and two, the fact that the first cross was a woman's name. We hear about all the sons lost, but not the daughters. Since I have two daughters, I was thinking about that.

Probably the flowers were there because of Mr. Qualls, so that is what drew me first, though I was looking for a female name before I saw the flowers. The fact that both crosses had displays around them also drew me.

If you haven't been there, I have to tell you it's a powerful, somber thing to see those crosses, and to realize many of the people around you are there because those crosses are more than names and wood. Especially when you see one with flowers or a flag, which means someone knew the person. When I took that picture, I wondered if either person's parents were watching me, and how they felt seeing my interest. It's a strange feeling, like you are honoring someone and trespassing on their most horrific grief at the same time. You can tell by the pictures the mood it put me in.

24. To think they were all here on this planet with us such a short time ago
really overwhelms a person.

Your photos are terrific. The impact recorded of the crosses is so clear and immediate.

Thanks so much.

32. Very powerful pictures. Thank you for posting them. Especially for those
of us who cannot be there in person but who are there in spirit.

I think you should offer your picture of Qualls' cross to AP as a companion to the ones of Cindy hugging Qualls' father. Together, they tell a story words cannot express.

35. "Welcome" on one end and "Warning: No Trespassing on the other"
Nice juxtaposition!

Reminds me of one of the verses in the old Woody Guthrie song "This Land is your Land" :

"And on the one side, it said NO trespassing...but on the other side it didn't say nothing...that side was made for you and me...."
