What a pain in the ass. I went to lunch last Thursday w/ a friend

of mine. When they rang us up (we forgot to ask for separate checks, so I told them what I had, then he did the same), the lady screwed up, but didn't realize this until after I gave her my debit card (the bill was supposed to be 9.99, but charged me $13.57). So, I thought, no big deal, I'll just give her back the card and they'll void it out, right?

The place was really crowded, and she gave my card to another chick to take care of while she rang the person behind me up (they were paying w/ cash, I guess).

So, I get the corrected bill and sign it, thinking everything was hunky dory.

I get home later and check my credit union statement online. I see the higher amount was on there. WTF? So, I call them up and I'm like, what gives? They say some bullshit about how there's some 20% difference and there's some hold they put on the amount...I don't know, but it should work itself out within 24 hours and I should see the corrected amount the next day. Well, didn't happen.

I happened to check a few minutes ago, and not only is the first $13.57 plus tip on the statement, but the 9.99 (plus tip) is on there, too! WTF? So, I guess I'm driving down to the restaurant tomorrow to get some money back. What a pain in the ass.

All this, for a Greek salad and some bread.

3. Call the manager, and show him the copy of where both charges are on the a
are on your statement.. If he's a good manager, he will comp your meal or give you a comped meal for a future visit.. Hopefully he will talk to whoever made the "correction"..

If that evcer happens again.. DEMAND to see the manager and ask for the difference in CASH.. by using your debit card they WERE taking your cash.. A credit card is different, but even with a cc that small amount would be better handled in cash:)

We once had a multiple charge appear and it took several letters/calls to finally get it straightened out,.But that was many years ago.

6. I actually talked to the manager the other day (he said I'd get
a salad free), but after I just saw the 15.27 on my statement, I'm going in tomorrow with my printed statement and the receipts to show him. I should get my 15.27 back, right?

Here's the weird thing. The first charge showed up that day on my statement; the second one showed up just tonight. I'm assuming the first charge isn't just going to disappear from my statement.

8. Yes.. They owe you the full amount, AND the comped salad
for the waste of your time and gas to get it figured out

10. I was totally thinking about the cost of the gas (ain't that the truth!).
Aggravation for such a stupid thing, but 15 bucks plus change for me isn't anything to sneeze at.

5. It does take longer for a credit to appear than a charge
It's probably not their fault, and if you drive down there, they won't be able to do anything, since they've already credited you. Credit card companies are a pain.

I'm assuming you have a copy of the credit? If not, that's what you should ask for. As long as they ran the credit, it will show up. If they didn't, ask for the money back in cash.

7. I was only given a copy of both receipts, no credit.
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 12:52 AM by SCRUBDASHRUB
At least that's what I think it is. I mean, on the first slip, it doesn't say "credit" nor does it say, "I agree to pay...", but the second (correct) slip it does have that statement on it. What a fucking mess.

11. Oh, that's different.
First you need to make them prove they ran a credit.

14. The manager of this place is actually pretty cool. I used to
eat there all the time. Once, I got a Greek salad (really good there) to go, and the person who packed it, put it in the bag upside down and it got all over my clothes and car. I was pissed (plus, I just had bought a new car). I called the restaurant, and they offered to pay for my drycleaning.

you think?

16. If you trust the manager
Just call and ask her to reassure you that the credit was run. They'll have a paper copy of all their receipts and credits. If they tried to void it instead of crediting you, their records should show if it's still on the books as a charge, or if it was voided.

If it wasn't credited or voided properly, nicely ask if you can just get the money in cash. They'll be as happy as you to have the deal settled.

Try to call when they aren't in a rush, though. Heightened tensions are never fun.

Thanks. I hate having to deal w/ this crap, especially on my weekend, but whatcha gonna do?
