See any good movies this weekend?

Either at the movieplex or at home?

I haven't rented a movie in ages (and haven't gone to one since Farenheit 9/11) but this weekend I saw:

1. "2010", great movie (to me, much more enjoyable than 2001);

2. "The Arrival" or some such bullshit with Charlie Sheen about aliens terraforming the planet b/c they are lizard people and need heat - not a bad premise, but his movies just seem to turn to shit;

3. "Elvis Has Left the Building" with Kim Basinger and John Corbett - horribly bad, but quirky and somehow compelled me to watch it all the way thru, and finally,

4. "In Good Company" with Dennis Quaid, Scarlett Johanssen and Topher Grace - this was a very good movie, I really enjoyed it quite a bit.

Have "Vera Drake" saved for tomorrow. Really, really wanted to rent "Bride and Prejudice" but it was out both times I went to the movie store.

How about you guys?

1. The Story of the Weeping Camel

about a family of Mongolian's in southern Mongolia who raise camels, sheep. It was a beautiful movie - running on Showtime

it just broke my heart when mama camel ignored her baby. Loved that movie. Beautiful.

but I saw two really bad movies this weekend, Alexander and Intolerable Cruelty.

4. I've avoided both of those...

"Alexander" just looked cheesy to me, and I usually avoid epic movies (though I did watch "The Aviator" - good acting, but Martin Scorcese did a crappy job with the story, I thought - focused too much on Hughes' instability and not enough on his genius). I loathe Catherine Zeta-Jones, mostly b/c she's wildly litigious, and so even tho I like George Clooney, I won't see anything with CZJ in it.

I recommend "In Good Company" next time you rent.

I saw "Alexander" out of curiosity because films that get universally trashed are often not as bad as critics say they are. It was that bad.

I thought "The Aviator" was excellent and Scorsese had to focus on one aspect of Hughes or the movie would have been 8 hours long. I watched the extras on the DVD and "The Aviator" was very much DiCaprio's pet project more than Scorsese so I assume Hughes' instability was what brought DiCaprio to the picture.

I am a fan of the Coen Brothers so I wanted to see "Intolerable Cruelty" for that reason. Nothing else to say about it though.

6. I haven't watched "The Aviator" extras yet (hubby bought the film)...

I just know that Hughes was brilliant, and I was sorry to see the movie focus on his weirdnesses. Oh well, I'll check out the extras.

7. Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins) was also planning

to make a Hughes film. Not sure if that is still going to happen though. Hughes is an incredibly intriguing person though. I recently read "Citizen Hughes" and learned quite a bit about him.
