Hey, it's a state holiday in my part of Switzerland and I didn't know it!
It's Feast of the Assumption, and I didn't realize it was a holiday until the Post didn't arrive!

Woo-Hoo! So, what're ya'll doing to celebrate? ;)

2. No feasting for me, enigmatic.
But it's kind of cool to know why nobody around us is cutting their grass, trimming their hedge or delivering the Post on a beautiful Monday morning!

Is your rib pain from the recent car accident? Here's a non-rib-squeezing hug:

5. Is Feast of the Assumption
not a day off of work in Germany? I don't think it's a national holiday here; but Tessin has a predominantly Catholic population, so I guess that's why our Postman has the day off.

10. *Reflects is she must be huffed because her birthday wasn't
worth mentioning and decides against it* ;)

Noo, "Mariä Himmelfahrt" as it's called here is only a holiday in those German States who have a Catholic majority. In Hessen unfortunately that's not the case :(

Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 05:22 AM by Heidi
I don't really celebrate FofA, but my Postman does. ;)

Go back to bed! It's a holiday . . . in Switzerland at least. :hi:

8. I got in trouble once as a child...for alluding to the old "You know what
assuming does?" joke. My mother did not find it very funny...my father did. Gosh, I almost miss practicing Catholicism. :hi:

9. Too funny.
My Swiss goddaughter, who is 11, has the best Italian-to-English translations for the names of the Cathlic holidays. Today, for example, is "Maria Jumping Into Heaven Day."

12. What assumptions are you making to celebrate it?
It was moved to yesterday in England - so I drank lots and played as many musical settings of the "Ave, Maria" as I could find (that's quite a lot - it's one of the most set texts around).

Fancier cook than I am and sort of a pan and cutlery snob, but he gets the job done.

24. The church thing was a joke.
If they ever saw me in our village's church, the priest would probably have me arrested for trespassing. ;)
