Chris Dwayne Jackson, 23, taken into custody Friday, has been charged with murder. His brother, Michael Curtis Jackson of nearby Spring, was shot in the back Aug. 4 at a Houston apartment complex.
"He failed to cooperate in any way," said Sgt. Mark Newcomb, a homicide detective. "We had been advised that family members said this was a family issue and not a police issue and they were going to handle it internally."
Newcomb, who said that there had been a dispute between the brothers, said Chris Jackson confessed to the slaying when he was questioned Friday. Newcomb said Jackson failed to turn himself in for more than a week.
Newcomb said SWAT officers were needed for the arrest because he had received a tip that Jackson intended to put up a fight.
During the procession, officers surrounded Jackson's car, which was two cars behind the hearse. Newcomb said the other cars in the procession were a considerable distance behind.
"They were held back while we got him," Newcomb said. "When we were finished, we let the procession continue on."
