Your compassion over the unexpected loss of Bronson has been a soothing balm for us all.

Bronson was in excellent health. On Saturday, my house mate Jon was playing with Bronson and his two litter-mates ~ Morgan and Chloé. They all seemed fine. His lifeless body was discovered early this morning by my house mate, Cherie. From the position of his body, head resting peacefully between his paws as it often was when he slept ... it appears that his passing was painless. It has been terribly hot with the heat index reaching 105 degrees for days. We believe that Bronson's death was hastened by the heat in his shady enclosed yard.

Bronson was large for a Golden Retriever, over 150 pounds of pure LOVE. He never knew fear, hunger or thirst. He sired 3 litters in his brief lifetime so his father Lord Byron's lineage will continue.

We purchased a White Chiffon Rose of Sharon and four Stargazer Lilies to plant over his resting place, in honor of the purity and sweetness of his unconditional love.

1. He may have had heart problems

My golden weighs nearly 100 pounds (and I don't over feed him) He was born with a heart murmur which makes him more easily fatigued from hotweather and exercise...

7. My Goldens all died from Heart problems - one found dead in the

morning. The cancers and hip problems never got to them - just the heart - but they usually had 14 to 15 years - and weighed in at 85 pounds.

Still it does not matter what they die of - it is like a loss of a family member - the family member you liked and who liked you.

It is the reason I have held off getting dog this late in life. A rescue dog from the Golden Rescue folks (who are based in Mass) would be a super idea - but I do not want to go through another dogs death.

Rose of Sharon and Stargazers sounds like a completely appropriate tribute. Maybe a Casablanca Lily or two as well. They're stunning.

Glad also you have his progeny and sorry again you lost him so soon.

4. I did not see this before.

I am so terribly sorry. All pets are special but we are on our second Golden and just like Labs they are particularly strong members of the family. It sounds like he did go peacefully and I hope that that will help you later. Right now the grief is so strong. I am so sorry. I love your choice for his resting place. May the flowers all grow strong and beautiful just like he was.

everything is done ... my house mates and I finished making a lovely resting place for all of our pets (when their time comes) ... hopefully we won't be adding another Rose of Sharon or Stargazer Lilly anytime soon .... but it is a beautiful sun dappled spot
