Hubby's in the Prague airport, his visa was for single entry, I'm a wreck.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Was it resolved?

He went in late May and was supposed to have a multiple entry visa (yes, he works for a multinational--they (as in the agency who handled the visa), should have known very well he would be returning).

I guess I just need reassurance--I know it'll be worked out, right?

He an't even charge his cell phone now, so I have to wait for him to call.

Crap--I need a big ol' cyber hug if nothing else.

I've held it in since about 10AM AZ time, now it's just finally getting to me.

I'm pretty sure his company will work it out--the legal department was on it within a half hour iof his being refused entry.

6. Does that mean he can't get into Prague or can't get out?

I'm sure his company can work it out. These things must happen all the time. My coworker from Ireland got stuck back home last year because our company messed up her Visa, but she managed to get it straightened out; just had a little longer vacation than she'd planned, and they had to cover it.

It's just nerve-wracking, and since he has to save the power to his cell phone, every time the phone rings I get a bit wacky!

It should be something like that, not too uncomfortable and it should be worked early in the AM I would hope. The US State office in Prague is very good.

I should have mentioned he's an Indian citizen with resident alien status in the US, although he FINALLY applied for citizenship.

I feel much better now, though. I just wish I could hear from him; of course, he's probably doing his best to sleep right now!

In the meantime, here's a funny story.

My husband called me from London one time (very late), and stated that he didn't know what was going on .. he had been in the Soviet Union, gone into a shop and tried to buy me a present. No one would talk to him, and basically told him to get the heck home; they were friendly but scared. Tanks were running around, I think, and crazy things were happening (as I recall).

I told him, "The Soviet Union has collapsed! Thank God you got out, Dear."

He said, "Come on!"

I said, "No, really. Turn on the news!"

We were both stunned; we had grown up fearing it.

Wacky things happen traveling for the corporation all of the time.

Or the time he was in some country, and told the other corporate official that he liked his desk; turns out, in that country, when you say something like that it is a request for the item to be given to you. And this desk was a huge, expensive wooden desk, made out of very expensive wood. My hubby spent quite a bit of time getting out of that one.

You'll be laughing about this one with the family some day.

15. Was it the airlines that looked at his passport

and the visa stamp inside and refused to let him board? In that case, they did him a favor, as it would be better for him to be stopped in Prague than to have to deal with the USCIS (new name for INS) once he arrives at a U.S. airport.

At its worse, he may have to go to the U.S. consulate in Prague and get a new visa stamp in his passport, with multiple entry. That might delay him a day or two but it should work out, especially if his company has a significant presence where he is. That always helps when dealing with the U.S. consulate in a foreign country.

Is he an H-1b?

16. UPDATE: CR isn't willing to give him the time of day (I failed to mention

in my original post that he is an Indian citizen, not yet a US citizen).

The legal department of his company is tearing their collective hair out over this; this is for a big conference my hubby organized--yet he may not attend!

It looks right now as if he will be taking the train to London or Frankfurt and catching a plane to LA (where hopefully he can get his visa straightened out) then returning on Saturday. There are no flights for him in the near future from Prague, so he'll have to go elsewhere to get one.

He is in pretty good spirits, considering what he's been through; pretty down, but far from out.

The likely scenario now is that he'll be home a day or two--perhaps we'll meet him in LA, even, then return with the proper visa.

Thanks to all of you for the hugs, advice, reassurance, and support. It meant so very much in tems of keeping me sane (along with a spirited pillowfight with my 8 year old son!)

17. I know of a few that had their passports stolen while in China

one woman I know of did have a bit of trouble getting back home, but she was of Chinese descent. She ended up having to contact the American consulate there & her husband back home had to fax some documents to them...

I would recommend that you make photo copies of all valuables before leaving next time - passport, esp. the page with the visa; driver's license; any credit cards; etc. - just in case.

18. When I was a travel consultant (ages ago)

I got a phone call from a client.. He was at the border ..in a train station with an Albanian soldier pointing a gun at him..accusing him of being a spy..Someone in DC screwed up his visa..I had to call DC in the am and find someone at the embassy who spoke english to intevene.. My client tried to get back on the train and go back to wherever he had come from, but the "guy with the gun" wouldn;t let him leave..

This was in the 70's when Albania was a really scary place..
