ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Pinellas County authorities said a 7-year-old busted for possessing pot on a school bus was "just a little kid trying to be cool," and won't be charged.
A school bus driver said the second-grader was showing a plastic bag containing two to three grams of marijuana to other children on the bus Monday morning.
School Superintendent Clayton Wilcox said he's sure the boy was just "trying to be cool." The boy told a school police officer that he didn't know the bag was in his pocket until he pulled it out.
The 7-year-old was referred to a juvenile arbitration program. The 74th Street Elementary School police officer did not arrest him because of his age and because of the small amount of drugs involved.
School Superintendent Wilcox said five Pinellas elementary school children were found in possession of drugs last year, but none were arrested.
