So, MrG collects historic WWII rifles. His cousin is a gunsmith and

dealer. Last night he brought home an M1 Grand. This one was issued in 1954, and therefor not used in the War, but it is in perfect condition because it was not used. The funny thing is, it looks just like the Enfield that he has which was used in the war, and also the Mosun Nagant (sp) that was used as well. I cannot believe how much historic WWII rifles cost. I could have bought a month's worth of groceries for what that cost him. But, he's been waiting a very long time and has been a very good boy. :hi:

Why am I telling you this? I have no idea, but it was cute to see his face light up when he showed it to me.

Take away the bolt and they look the same to me. ;) His cousin is a dealer who purchased it through the civilian Marksmanship Program for him. His cousin is one of the people who go through the guns when they come in for the program. I even got to hear the chicken coop story and the Finns v. the Russians with the Nagants story last night. :hi:

5. Actually, the Garand is remarkably accurate for a miilitayr weapon...

I have done some competitive shooting with one, and was very impressed. Does your husband have a model 1891 Argentine Mauser? They are usually very accurate as well (I have had two and was very happy with both).

give me a shout. I believe that I have the Only Mannlicher-Carcano (WWII vintage Italian 6.5x52mm) that has double set triggers, a full Mannlicher-Schoenauer stock, and a lovingly placed side mounted scope. Also shot a three shot group at a hundred yards that could be covered with a penny, so some of them are not as notoriously inaccurate as billed.

6. Actually, it's a "Garand"

My dad has one. I like and appreciate rifles, was raised with them, and am a pretty good shot. I wouldn't have one in my house, though. And while I think we should take every single hand gun and automatic on the planet and melt them down into a big lump, I have no problem with rifles. Go figure.

I have several collections and have stopped buying stuff about 10-15 years ago. I have North African shoes (3 pair, two from Morocco, 1 from Tunis, all gifts) Jewelry of all kinds (nothing super valuable, but all very pretty) Beads, Silver souvenir spoons and a lot of ephemera I am working to put into art pieces, jewelry, little sculptures and 'thing collages'-ooh and marbles I have found while doing landscape jobs and small stuffed animals-uh no beanie babies.

20. I love WWII era rifles

The M1 Garand is a fine piece of work. 1st semi-auto rifle to be standardized by any military. Gave US soldiers a huge advantage over Mauser toting Germans and the ridiculous bolt action Arisakas used by the Japanese.

I love the Lee-Enfield Rifles, particularly the Rifle No. 4 used by the British in WWII---best bolt action combat rifle ever made

And no, he doesn't hunt either. Actually, I would be far more likely to shoot something to eat than him (when I first moved in, he had a herd of raccoons he was feeding regularly, something I put a stop to).

He has an M-1 - nice rifle. I grew up around firearms and have always loved to shoot. And for the record, I personally have nothing against hunting as long as it is done responsibly and the person doing so is using what they hunt. My dad fed my family for several lean years on what he could put in the freezer either from hunting or raising a pig or cow.
