Ok, give me a fucking break...the carry-on weight allowance at CDG is 11 POUNDS?!?!? :mad: that's fucking ridiculous, since AA's is 40!!! and of course, CDG's overrides AA's...i am beyond pissed about this...had to repack everything, and now i can hope that it will be ok, since i don't tend to carry scales around with me when i travel...goddamn it.

Plus 11 pounds? That's majorly crap. I went short-haul to Italy and even then it was 10kg (about 22 pounds) - my bag was over-size but not over-weight, nobody raised an eyebrow. How can you put ANYTHING into a bag weighing 11 pounds?

That's what you get for putting the runway over the top of a motorway I guess.

i just happened to look at their website, or else i would have been clueless...i don't know if they'll check it, but before i repacked, it weighed about 35 lbs, hehe...

i just don't get why the airport's rules take precedence over the people who actually own and fly the goddamn plane... :shrug:

I've never heard of an airport that imposed weight limits. It's always been the airlines. I just checked a couple of websites for CDG, and there was no mention of weight limits.

It's your CARRY-ON that can't be more than 11 pounds (5 kg).

Your checked luggage can be 23kg (about 50 pounds).

11 pounds for a carryon is fucking bullshit! i've been here for 3 weeks, and have about 50 pounds of stuff to bring home! jeebus f-ing christ...and, the airport should not be able to dictate the weight rules over the actual airline, imho. AA says 40 pounds is fine, but not goddamn CDG!! sorry, i just think this ridiculous.

i went through cdg recently, no one was weighing my carry-on

i'd say not to stress it, get there early & if there is a problem, make arrangements to check some of the stuff, but i'd be surprised if you had a problem

One of my bosses used to go to France multiple times a year, and to get around the weight restrictions, she mailed most of her purchases back to the states. Non-airmail isn't very expensive (if you can bear to wait about 4 weeks to get your goodies), and will save your having to worry about the airlines strict weight limits.

a few months ago i carried on abt. 50 lbs, i didn't bring any checked luggage, i'm of the one-bag school, no one said anything, they knew i had it because i was sent to secondary & they had to open everything & every little pocket of everything before i could board

I've been through CDG many times, no problems.

Besides, what's the point in carrying so much stuff on a plane? I'd rather let the airlines handle the schlepping.

like i said, i carried on way more than 11 lbs at cdg, no problem

the point of carrying on, instead of letting the airlines handle the schlepping, will quickly become plain to you in the following circumstance--

1) you fly out of an airport where arrests for theft by baggage handler are a regular occurrence

2) you have electronics such as digital cameras, optical equipment, or laptop computers that airlines tell you cannot be guaranteed safe delivery if placed in checked luggage

3) yr bags have been lost

4) because you had to wait for your checked luggage, which takes between 20 minutes to an hour to come off the plane, you are at the end of a huge line at customs & immigration or at the taxi stand or you're just plain tired & that's another hour before you get home

i am a firm believer in no checked bags wherever possible

17. I dunno. I can't handle schlepping all that crap around and then

battling the other passengers for space, then stumbling with it all through the airport.

So I bought a lightweight laptop, a small camera and they do come with me, but in my purse with my jewelry and the current book and relevent papers, with a makeup bag and my wallet. The rest is insured, and taken care of by the airlines. Knock wood, I travel a lot, and so far, knock wood, I've never lost a bag (that's what insurance is for!!).

I would just rather let others do the hard work of schlepping my baggage. And I make allowances for the baggage claim in my schedule. I dunno, I just like to make things as easy as possible I guess.

yr luggage needs to be something you can easily schlep anyway such as a backpack

if you can't carry it from gate into airplane, how are you going to get to yr hotel?

to me yr way is much more difficult & expensive, if others schlep, you gotta pay, it isn't just bellmen w. hands out but not being able to walk or take public transport so you have cab expenses too

i'll stick w. my one bag theory

i do bring old clothes & throw them away as i buy acquire souvenirs, maybe that's the difference

22. I take hired cars, taxis, etc. There are times for economy and times for

comfort... I'd rather travel in comfort and take hired cars and cabs and let others do the work for me.

As far as traveling, we use public transport when once we're there, or rent our own cars, etc. But when we're getting back and forth, $100 extra isn't going to break me and the comfort is worthwhile.

The only thing I've seen weighed was checked luggage, or carry-ons that were like 2x2x2 FEET, and obviously heavy. Relax, breathe, and it will be ok, ok? :)

We always get out of the US fine, but when we return we always have luggage problems. Had to pay an extra 200 Euros to check a carryon that was overweight last time. Arrrgggghhh

but I didn't.

Because of totally messed up, understaffed multiple security checkpoints at CDG, I barely made my flight back to Philadelphia via Air France, even with a reasonable connection time. My checked luggage (both pieces hideously overweight) didn't make it home until the next day. Not a big deal on a flight home, thank God.

you've experienced temporary pain of the return flight from vacation. I hate returning home. Hopefully you'll forget about it - actually come to think of it we ran into an issue wrt the wine limit - so we had to "drain" a couple of bottles before the flight - couldn't do that again days. hopefully you had time to "ship" stuff home.

Nobody weighed my carry on which is good cause it would have weighed a lot. Are you sure about this rule? Maybe you should call.
