awesome reaLization just now about tonight's vigiL
2 days ago, i went to the moveon page to find the cLosest vigiL; i was surprised to see so many vigiLs taking pLace around me (incLuding the usuaL boston common one).

i was more surprised to see a vigiL scheduLed right up the street from me. my area is mostLy uneducated white trash, asshoLes and junkies (my immediate area. i Like to think the rest of my city isn't Like that) who make an otherwise pLeasant neighborhood unbearabLe on most days. and yes, dubya stickers are common.

anyhow, 2 days ago, there were 3 peopLe signed up for the LocaL vigiL (which i expected thanks to the description above).... as of right now, 118 peopLe are signed up to attend. :wow:

i'm shocked! i'm aLso beaming with pride.

i aLso have a LittLe Less hatred of humanity as weLL.

i hope they aLL show up - i hope much more show.

:bounce:

i just hope there won't be any troubLe.

15. not really....
altho Andover is wealthy, it is progressive and went for Kerry. And the "protestors" come from all over the Merrimack Valley - even southern NH. They vigil every day of the week somewhere up here, and I believe on weekends they can be at multiple sites.

I vigiled with them last year but had to stop due to some family issues. Now those family issues have escalated into my son volunteering for Iraq - so I'll be out there tonight myself.

Question, I know there will be lots of signs and I know that this is a time to focus on Cindy Sheehan and ending this war, but would an IMPEACH sign be out of line? I'm feeling very compelled to make one - I know have been others at the vigils but maybe tonight is not the time to wave it....?

16. i can't say for sure
from what i gather, the vigiL organizers want this just to be about soLidarity with cindy, and bringing the troops own... everything eLse is a distraction.

i wouLdn't mind seeing a chimpeachment sign though. :D

19. I did!
Just got back from it a little bit ago, 110 people in a town of about 22,000. Not so bad! Lots of positive comments, honking, waving, and only a couple of naysayers. Met some cool people. All in all, a good night!

13. Similarly
I had intended to travel about 50 miles across the bay which would take about an hour and a half in summer "tourista" traffic but when I just checked the moveon site, I learned that there's a vigil now listed a mere 8 miles down the road.

Am very pleased.

17. Funnily enough
the one that's 8 miles away is in fact in your corrupt, er fine state.

So there.

Aaand as I've said before, we were corrupt long before it became nationally trendy to be so.

:hi:

23. What happened tonight was truly remarkable.
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 09:11 PM by terrya
This was very, very short notice. And yet...1,400 vigils across the country. The one I went to...there was such..commitment and concern for our country...and the good servicemen and women over in Iraq putting their lives at risks...for such pointless reasons. You could tell that the people at the vigil...just wanted to do something. Cindy Sheehan was the reason...and all of us stand by her. But...it...was bigger than her. That's what it seemed like to me.
