Elton John's "Leavon"
Can someone explain that song to me?

Is there some deeper meaning to the lyrics. It kinda doesn't make much sense.

1. It's about a man who cares about money and his son who doesn't.

2. Why Name His Child "Jesus"?
Why the part about being born on Christmas day when the New York Times said "God is dead"?

4. Because he likes the name.

Just like the song says. Or perhaps since he was born on a christmas day.

I actuall think that it's meaning is a complete mystery anyway. Maybe Bernie was smoking the same thing Elton was.

3. Lyrics
Levon wears his war wound like a crown
He calls his child jesus
`cause he likes the name
And he sends him to the finest school in town

Levon, levon likes his money
He makes a lot they say
Spend his days counting
In a garage by the motorway

He was born a pauper to a pawn on a christmas day
When the new york times said God is dead
And the war’s begun
Alvin tostig has a son today

And he shall be levon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be levon
In tradition with the family plan
And he shall be levon
And he shall be a good man
He shall be levon

Levon sells cartoon balloons in town
His family business thrives
Jesus blows up balloons all day
Sits on the porch swing watching them fly

And jesus, he wants to go to venus
Leaving levon far behind
Take a balloon and go sailing
While levon, levon slowly dies

5. here are the lyrics to the song
sometimes reading them helps one understand a little bit better.

OH, and the song is "Levon" :)

Levon wears his war wound like a crown
He calls his child Jesus
`Cause he likes the name
And he sends him to the finest school in town

Levon, Levon likes his money
He makes a lot they say
Spend his days counting
In a garage by the motorway

He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times said God is dead
And the war's begun

7. Levon was actually named for Levon Helm
of The Band.....no idea about the rest of it but, Alvin Tostig had a son which was Levon, so Alvin is the grandpa, Levon is the son and Jesus is the grandson...

9. I loved Elton too...
I have no idea what has happend to him, all of that "Lion King" crap is where I became tired of his music.

It's too bad, because he really is spectacular!

14. some EJ trivia
did you know that he was originally booked as a session singer for King Crimson's 2nd LP, "In the Wake of Poseidon"?

He never did any sessions (they were done by ex-KC vocalist Greg Lake and Gordon Haskell), but he was still paid £250 for his troubles by KC's management.

:D

15. The entire song is an excuse
...to write the line "Leaving Levon far behind" -- I'm convinced.

19. Did you see Anthony Bourdain in the Asian market in NJ last week?
He was pointing out that "Hello Kitty" was on everything. I didn't know where it came from, but it seems really strange to me.

18. Price them @ $1,000,000 each.
You only need to sell one a year to be rich....
