Officer appreciation thread
On Saturday we found out that someone had stolen my 9 year old son's bike. Luckily we had a good description of the bike and the serial number was written down (sometimes I'm organized). Anyway, Officer Hall told us that he would be on the lookout for the bike and sure enough he just brought it back to us.

I had assumed that we would never see my son's bike again, but Officer Hall took finding our property seriously and for that I am so very grateful.

Police often get a bad rap, and sometimes it is with just cause, but they also do good work in our communities. What Officer Hall did was just his job, but it will never be forgotten by my nine year old son nor me, his mother, who could not afford to purchase a new bike.

If you have a story of an officer who went the extra mile to help you out, please take an opportunity to appreciate them here.

2. I live in a rough neighborhood
I always have. I've seen crappy cops and angel cops. When we had a bunch of drug dealing going on behind our house, they were angels. There used to be this overgrown empty lot, with enough vegetation to hide in. There was actual prostitution going on back there (someone had drug in a mattress--Or sometimes it was a quicky in the car parked in the alley). Addicts and dealers were everwhere. Sad looking folks, usually not white. We used to see white guys in nice SUV's parked, waiting for the dope man, so we'd pretend to take down their license plate number and watch them run away. That part was fun. Anyway, the cops responded to our complaints, (many of our neighbors where fairly new immigrants and didn't know what to do, even though their cars were being broke into or stolen and such)The cops stood on our darkened deck and watched. They busted everybody they could. They always responded. They contacted the owner of the lot. It's a long story but the lot got sold, new triplexes were built. And much of the problem went away.

4. My bike was stolen back when I was around nine,
and the officer who came out was also very kind and went out of his way to help. I didn't get my bike back, but I did get to ride around in a police car and look for it! And, about 8 million mowed lawns later, I could buy a new bike...
