What's your favorite kind of soup?

Until I was 16, I had a pathological fear of soup. Something about it being both liquid AND solid made me reticent to indulge.

Since then, I've grown quite fond of the form.

Anyways, my favorite soup is Beer Cheese.

33. I make my own

I get some buillion from the store, bake some chicken, throw in some noodles, vegetables, some maybe some extra seasonings and it is some great stuff. Often I will throw in barley and/or rice, but I always keep the noodles. It is good stuff.

7. Carrot and corriander

Which is odd as I despise corriander with a vengeance by itself.

In a similar vein - brocolli and stilton (brocolli being one of the most grotesque developments known to man).

Also, there was a sandwich shop when I was at university which did home-made soups; they sometimes had a curried cauliflower, it sounds ghastly was was most yummilicious. :D

but I also love a good gazpacho, cauliflower soup, and any homemade soup made from leftover chicken or turkey.

and stew, its cousin.

I usually make my own: start with water and broth, add onions and spices, let it simmer for awhile, add celery, carrots, and potatoes (celery and carrots need to cook longer than potatoes) and then throw in tomato sauce and tomato paste closer to the end. About 10 minutes from the end, if I feel like it, I will add pasta in one form or another. I will sometimes add peas at the very end as well. Ready to eat.

I don't like a lot of salt in my food at all, so I try to avoid soups that are condensed and full of salt. Once in a great while I get a hankering for tomato soup, though. Otherwise, I mainly use any of the soups which are low in sodium.

Soups are good for the fall and winter, and for bedtime snacks. I only eat vegetarian soups or chicken soups--stopped eating beef a long time ago.

44. I LOVE French soups - soupe au pistou, bouillabaisse, and fish soup

with rouille, the latter preferably served at a beach side restaurant overlooking the blue Mediterranean and the Bay of Angels in Nice, France. Fish soup with rouille and bouillabaisse are two very different soups, by the way.

Soupe au pistou, somewhat similar to Italian Minestrone but much better, made with lots of basil is my favorite.
