Jesus (if a real person) came from the middle east. He was NOT a European. He had darker skin, shorter, curly hair and certainly didn't look so different from other folks in the region that he stood out a lot.

So why are the Shroud of Turin, the one just posted in the Lounge, and so many other images all portraying the Michelangelo version of Jesus? Hello!! And that goes for Mary as well!!

Sheesh, these people--you have to actually wonder about their lack of reasoning power.

2. I think he certainly looked middle-eastern, but there is no

proof that says he had short curly hair. His hair could have most definitely been long and straight. I don't think of him looking European. He was Jewish, so of course he looked middle-eastern.

3. I think it was National Geographic or one of

those kinds of magazines (like Discover or one of the science magazines) that put together a profile of what Jesus looked like. It was about two years ago, I think. I'll see if I can find the article. But short hair was "in" in JC's time, and I'm sure he didn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Of course it was only a theory. I think it was probably pretty accurate, but details such as the hair, and others are just guesses. It is possible that is was longer. But the skin color and hair texure are right on, IMO!

5. Middle easterners are caucasoid

Technically, the correct racial term is Indo-European, and it covers everyone from Britain to Pakistan. They arose on the shores of the Black Sea and spread outward into the Middle East, Europe, and western Asia, displacing the native populations as they went (they also introduced male dominated culture and slavery).

Why am I pointing this out? To make the point that, racially, Middle Easterners and Europeans are the same thing, and that there are few differences between their face structures. I work with a guy from Iraq who could easily pass as a Frenchmen or Italian if he didn't talk...his skin is as pale as any European and he looks no different...and yet he can trace his ancestry back five centuries in what is now Iraq.

Take your average Palestinian, keep him out of the sun for two months and dye his hair red, and I'll bet you could pass him off as an Englishman without any difficulties.

Most of your medditeranean peoples have darker skin, and even the northern Europeans can get quite dark if they're outside a lot. My dad, who is a Scot/German mutt, worked as an ag welder for many years when I was a kid, and he looked just like many of our Mexican-American neighbors. When his real career finally took off and he traded in his hard hat and bare back for a labcoat and office, he got as pale as a ghost.

While a certain part of the differences in skin tone are genetic (the two groups divided about 5000-8000 years ago), much of it simply has to do with the way Middle Easterners live. Most of them still work outside, and since they live in a desert environment they have become deeply tanned as a result. Middle easterners who don't work outside, like my fellow computer geek Iraqi co-worker, don't look all that different from Europeans.

Funny, the Palestinians are what were left of the Jews who didn't flee Israel many years ago. They are the same people. YEs, brother killing brother.
