1. You know I have never once had Hamburger Helper

I mean, I once bugged my mom to buy and use it because I thought that hand was so fricking cute but my mom said she could make that stuff easier herself.

Hamburger Helper was the downfall of society. Once people realized they could make a complete meal from a box families around the world gave-up home cooked meals made from scratch in order to have processed meals from a box - just add meat!

5. It basically tastes like salt...

I used to make it all the time when I first moved out of my parents' house. That and Kraft Mac 'n' Cheese, which also tastes like salt.

2. I'm trying to decide whether to laugh or be offended!

On the one hand, I have a brother in law who was so poor at one point he lived off squirrels, and he's a redneck, so I should be offended by the stereotype. On the other hand, he's a conservative without a clue, so...

9. "Brunswick stew"

According to one story, Brunswick stew was named for Brunswick County, Virginia, where in 1828 Dr. Creed Haskins of the Virginia state legislature asked for a special squirrel stew from "Uncle Jimmy" Matthews to feed people attending a political rally. Brunswick, Georgia residents claim their stew is the original. It's just as likely the stew - at least a very similar version - was created much earlier. With the original ingredients of game (usually squirrel) and corn, and long simmering over an open fire, it's typical of early native dishes.
