Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 03:50 PM by arwalden
... or short story. Too many to list in a single poll, but you can refresh your memory by visiting this page http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000175/ to see a list of what's been filmed already (and what's coming soon).

1. Shawshank Redemption (but I guess it's technically a "novella")
Runner up would be either "Carrie" or "The Shining"

the rest of quite horrid and predictable.

17. I forgot about Stand by Me, that is one of
my favorite movies ever. I guess it reminds me of my childhood since that is when I first watched it. It is so good though. But I also really liked The Shining. It scared the crap out of me the first time I watched it, plus I love Jack Nicholson.

16. parts of the green mile were stolen from "the weatherman"
which was printed BEFORE the Green mile, and which King wrote a foreward for !!!!

One whole scene was lifted: the failed execution, even down to the reason of a dry sponge.

I love King's craft but he is a bit of "nicker" as the brits say.

13. Stand By Me?
Based on the novella "The Body" from Different Seasons.

Come to think of it, 3 of the 4 stories were made into movies:

"The Body"
"Apt Pupil"
"Rita Hayward and the Shawshank Redemption"

19. Probably Carrie.
I refuse to see "It", because the greatest part of the horror of It is what It is in your own imagination.

26. Shawshank was great, but...
Stand By Me was best and probably truest adaption of a King story.

It was a TV miniseries, but it's still a movie.

28. The Shining
Maybe it isn't really fair to vote for Kubrick's version of The Shining because King despised it, as did many King fans and fans of the novel. However, Kubrick is famous for taking works and synthesizing them into his singular vision. I just find The Shining endlessly fascinating. I have probably seen it forty or fifty times and things about it still puzzle me to this day.

My second runner up would be De Palma's "Carrie"

Fun question!

It was one of his best novels and the movie wasn't half bad either.
