I've signed up for a beginner class, and am looking forward to it. Iyengar.

the most important thing about yoga is to listen to your body. Never push it. The second most important thing is to stick to it. You won't always get the same high from a yoga class, but continuous practice will change you

2. I've been reading up on it. |

So much information out there it's a little bewildering. But they echo your comments. I need to learn to hear my body.

Don't be afraid to try other studios with different types of practices. I remember the first one I went to expected everyone to do handstands. I still can't do handstands. I've found other studios that are more accepting of physical limitations. Just remember with yoga you start from where you are. We do not all end up being able to do advanced poses.

4. I didn't even know there WERE different approaches . . . |

. . . until I started looking into it. I specifically chose the Iyengar as it seems to fit my personality a bit better - I tend to be a compulsive towel-folder, for example. I like the idea of working to perfect a pose, and fussing with details like that. That's just me.

But I still do it. I don't buy into all the metaphysical bullshit that comes with it.... But it works, it really does.
Khash.
