There is a guy here in Virginia who is doing some serious research on sightings in this state. I think it is kind of neat that someone would devote that much time to it even if they don't exist. There is a part of me that thinks that he was just looking for an excuse to sink $100,000+ into tech. equipment though.

swears she has tea with bigfoot once a week or so, except in the summer, because it's just too hot then, doncha know.

Some have speculated that Bigfoot is actually a surviving form of Gigantopithecus, the largest primate ever to walk the earth. Gigantopithecus lived about 6 million years ago and supposedly went extinct about 200,000 to 700,000 years ago. No complete skeleton of Gigantopithecus has ever been found but the speculation is that they went around 10 feet tall (2 to 3 times the bulk of a modern gorilla) and walked on their hind legs and dragged their knuckles. Those who question why we've never found any bones from Bigfoot if they exist could point out that Gigantopithecus certainly existed in good numbers and was widespread throughout Asia but that very few bones have been found in the fossil record.

The reported sightings of Bigfoot go back very far in time, on several continents, before it might have been lucrative to have book deals or pseudo documentaries. Again, I don't think Bigfoot exists, but I don't think science would be able to rule it out 100%. Maybe people have been seeing bears or reclusive mountain men, but I don't think everyone who has reported a sighting is a goof or attention-seeker.

Yeah, Horatio...I'm a scientist (motto: "show me"...okay, so maybe that's Montan's motto, or Missouri's, or whoever's) but I wouldn't rule out the big, hairy dude. Tales of gorillas seemed at least as fanciful not (in the big picture) all that long ago and it was as recent as 1976 that we first encountered the megamouth shark.

It's conceivable that something is out there, maybe in more than one area of the world. Some relative of ours, perhaps even a dead-end offshoot of the enanderthal line, or a giant ape. Who knows. I wouldn't stake my life on it, or lay down thousands of dollars to go find one, but it sure wouldn't surprise me if they're there.

There're still some wild places out there, believe it or not, and we don't yet know everything. May it always be so.

We just discovered a fairly big waterfall in California, way back in a wilderness.

There are places where such creatures could hide. Some say they also have openings into the Earth, where they can go, literally, underground.
