I think I am living with a serial killer!

Last week, when sifting out one of the three cat litter boxes in our house, I found the body of a dead mouse buried in the litter. Now, this afternoon, I found another one. One of my cats is killing mice and burying them in the cat litter. But, which one is it. Could it be Miss Kitty, a rowdy little tom boy? Cuddles, my angel in fur--quiet and sweet? Or, Bogie, the energetic little pest? Should I call the cops or consult a cat psychiatrist?

I never heard of cats burying mice in their litter. Any one else had this happen?

24. Eek...is right. I live in a neighborhood where we irrigate and have lots

of citrus. Some freak brought in a couple from somewhere and they got all over the neighborhood. They have mostly moved on as everyone picks all their fruit early now and the city comes by to pick the street trees. But there is an occassional rat left hiding in the irrigation pipes. Never a dull moment.

4. Actually, they are burying "food" for future

use. Did any of your cats by chance have a deprived kittenhood? Cats in the wild bury what they can't finish so they'll have food later.

Then again, it could be suicide.

Mine definitely do not bury them. They attempt to bat them to death. I have always been able to get the mouse away before death and burial. Sounds like a smart cat to me.:rofl:

9. None of my little buddies have ever buried carnage

in their litter box, but I did go through a period of finding little dismembered mouse paws and tails around house. Reminded me of a B. Kliban cartoon.

has decided it doesn't like the taste of mice anymore and disposed of it the best way he/she could think of.

18. I personally think

it was the younger, more playful cat. I think he probably wasn't interested in the mice for food, - as I've always spoilt them rotten. I suspect it more likely that the bits came dismembered while he toyed with or batted the corpses around for sport.

It makes me wonder if your little fuzz-ball toys with the carcasses until they start to smell 'off' and then buries them in the poo box.

19. Worst mouse experience.

Cat brought in a mouse and was playing with it around my feet under my computer chair. I heard a terrible squeal of pain that made my hair stand on end. There was a dead mouse with baby mouse fetuses strewn around that I had to clean up. :(

Not as bad maybe as when he brought in a wild rabbit and ate only its head. Leaving me to clean up the body placed behind my computer chair.
