I know that I probably need one for emergencies, but I just can't bring myself to spend the bucks.

Am I a freak who is flirting with disaster?

2. You are, I finaly broke down and bought one a week ago, simply
because the wife is away for five weeks so that we could talk. It really is convenient though, seeing as how we have no land line.

5. No.
Don't have one and don't particularly want one. People don't need to know where I am all of the time. If you want me, leave a message on my home phone. Hell, I'm 47 years old and have made it very well without a cell phone. Think I can make it a few years longer.

9. That's the way I feel but
I have this fear of breaking down on the side of the road. I always try to keep a pre-paid calling card handy.

6. I'm with ya lbnnc
My wife has one for emergencies (at her insistence which I could not object). I have a CB radio in my truck for emergent purposes, but I have no desire to have a leash. I am retired and that may have some bearing on my attitude but I don't want one. I observe others with cellphones and they appear to be more of a pain in the ass then an aid to every day living. I had one while on duty in the Navy but that was for a specific purpose, not to ask "what are doing", "oh nothing what are you doing." Let me waste my own time.

11. We have one, but only because it made long distance cheaper
I wouldn't say you're flirting with disaster - we all dealt with emergencies just fine w/o them a decade ago (well, I generally whined until someone else dealt with it, but you know what I mean). Anyway, in an emergency, everyone around you would have a cell phone, so let them pay...

And I want to be the last person in the world to not have one. Maybe then I'll get one - after I've won the contest.

15. If the only reason you don't have one is money....
check into tracfone. they are relatively inexpensive and have great reception( at least for me, NW Ohio).Like the others I rarely turn it on but it's nice for emergencies.Oh and they are no contract.

16. I know a lot of folks without one. There are
some areas around these parts that don't even have cell pods, so you can't make or receive calls in those areas.

I have one, but it isn't all that expensive for me. I've got one of those little prepaid thingamies. (Tracfone, Go Phone, etc) It's actually pretty cheap to operate, doesn't require a credit card, no possibility of expensive overages even if I had a talky teenager instead of a cat.

23. No, not a freak
maybe a luddite <just kidding> I did get one many many years ago because I drive through the mountains (Rockies) alot. However, I didn't check out the cell coverage. None through the mountains. Great, I thought... the one place I would need it for an emergency, and no signal. When my contract ran out, that was it for me.

Don't want one, either. And all the times I've been robbed, pillaged, or plundered won't change my mind. (Fact is, none of that has happened to me.)

I can think of maybe 3 times in the past ten years when one may have been convenient, but it just isn't worth it to me.

Also a stand against technology gone amuck.

28. Cricket is the answer my friend.
As cheap as you can go. I think the initial phone buy is somewhere in the range of 60/70 bucks (they usually have a special with sign-up) but then you have no credit check and no contract and no min. total to keep up with. Just a flat rate per month for unlimited min. It starts out at around $30/month and then there are 3 other plans up to $45/month. I pay $56 a month and that gets me coverage in the city and surrounding areas and all the way to CHarlotte and that whole city. Also 500 long distance min. Not too many dropped calls either. If you end up deciding to get one this is the most economical and they really don't try to gouge you. I have just a basic phone (no fancy cameras and such) and I love it!
