6. Hi MuseRider! How are your equine beasties?

My Cotton beastie is doing well. She's growing big and strong: she's 15.1 hands and a bit under 1,000 LBS at 2 years and 3 months of age!

7. Right now they are wet

and that means tomorrow they will be muddy! They are great. While I was in Crawford I left them in the care of my mostly unwilling husband but they are no worse for the wear, lol.

My she is growing! Aren't they fun at that age? Do you break them as 2 year olds or 3 year olds? One of my babies was solid enough to green break at 2 and is competitive at 3 and the other I did not break until she was 3. It sounds to me like yours is big enough but I do not know the traditions of your breed.

Mine were certainly feeling their oats before the storm. I love when they get all excited and buck and run, they are just so cute. Even the old man gave a low head shake and tried to rear up like a stallion. He is such a love.

9. Your beasties must have survived the "hubby care!"

Cotton can't be ridden until age 4 when her joints are mature. Oldenburgs are large warmbloods and mature later. The Germans show them in Dressage and the Hunters and Jumpers at about age 7 - 8. Their minds settle at about 5-6.

Cotton is very smart. We work w/ a Natural Horsemanship trainer and on our own. We are learning ground manners, driving (long lines), round pen work w/ and w/out saddles and bridles on the long lines...the bit and actual backing will be left to my trainer. I'm not so brave. I've never backed a green horse!

I will soon put my weight in the stirrups while someone holds her and I've always leaned on her back since she was born. Now, I have to stand on a hay bale to lean on her though! I sat on her as a yearling while she was lying down. She looked around at me and I said "this is where I'll be when we ride - It's OK." She was cool with that. :)

She's on the right. Her friend is Magic, a Holsteiner, same age. :)
