Recently started a martial practices (arts) program and my body HURTS!
Yes it does. It hurts. It all hurts. Ribs, arms, and bruises everywhere. There's throwing, tripping, flipping, grappling, twisting (Arm bars and such), and yes, strangulation (Ie. Choking...).

What have I got myself into?

4. It's a torturous form of intense yoga done in a 100 degree room
It's good for injuries, which I have, because the heat is supposed to make the muscles more pliable.

The poses are rediculously difficult, especially when you are fainting from the heat.

5. You're making me woozy just thinking about it.
I hope it's helping, but the way anything over 90 makes me melt even when it's dry, I just don't see it.

Sounds beneficial, though....

9. It's calmed my mind quite a bit...that and alchemical hypnosis
I'm like a bright, shiny beacon of light around my house these days.

11. Yeah, I've been doing it for 4 months 3 times a week.
It's a nice form of addiction. Some about eastern martial arts and yoga appeals to me more than pumping iron and 45 minutes on a treadmill.

7. I've wanted to try that for years
as a way to get in shape and become more confident, because I was always the fat, oversized, geeky, last pick in PE class for anything but tug-of-war type of kid.

One problem. I just can't imagine trying to fight another person, even if it were only controlled sparring. Someone could be standing there and I don't think I could hit them. I'm such a wuss. :cry:

10. There's no striking in what I've taken up.
It's Judo.

Which so far I love.

Actually it may be a great sport for you. Like I said there's no striking, just grappling and such.

While that may sound tame for the folks in the flashier martial programs it's still a confidance builder becasue of this...So many fights end up on the ground anyway and often times people grab you prior to hitting. Once proficient in Judo once someone tries to grab you the game is up, for them.

12. I have a dreadful suspicion that I'm about to start a Tae Kwon Do program
I know myself well enough to know that I'm going to do this, whether I want to or not. Who knows if I'll last. I don't enjoy getting beat up, generally speaking. They'll have to make it really interesting to keep me coming.

I'm keen to get back to practicing Bo katas. I used to use that and chuks to stay toned. Great exercise, and fun.

13. The one cool thing about Judo is the fact that you get to practice it.
There are great things about Tae Kwon Do belive me but the greatest thing about Judo is the up close and personal contact. Every session is a workout. In Tae Kwon Do you rarely get to kick your mates in the head. However you get to throw around whoever getswith you reach in Judo.

The downside is the physical beating of every session. I'm in beter than average shape and I'm hurting. But it's a good hurt.

One last thing: While judo is fabulous for grappling, throwing, submission moves, tripping and choking, it always helps to be able to handle the pre-contact shit like sucker punches.Normally that's simply standing back until someone is dumb enough to charge, but there is always th chance that someone with just start winging away. Each time that's happened in my life it's been different so who knows...
