Favourite Sportscaster?
For me, it's Bob Cole. So many people slag him cause he's old and sometimes forgets players names and such. But NO ONE can call a hockey game like Bob Cole, When Team Canada is in the midst of a serious battle, or it's the Stanley Cup playoffs and the game is just insane... Bob starts humming and it is POETIC to hear him describe the game. Man, sends chills up my back thinking about it.

1. I don't follow hockey, so I'm not familiar with Bob Cole.
But I can't think of a favorite. I listen to my baseball team on local radio. When my football team is playing, I turn down the teevee and listen to our HOF quarterback on the radio. I guess I'msayin' I prefer radio play-by-play to teevee sports audio.

Those two are good as well, they are my favorite ESPN baseball duo...I cannot bear to hear the 5 tool idiot Jeff Brantley do games on ESPN.

13. The worst is that Tim McCarve assbag
Whenever he talks about Justin Morenau or Jason Bay he can't help himself from saying a STUPID ignorant comment about Canada.... and I don't mean little things that you can laugh off. The guy's a genuine idiot.
Morenau is from New Westminster (Where HEyHEY was born) an McCarver made some comment about "Plenty of moose where he's from"
Fucking twat, New West is a goddamn city of like 300,000 in the Lower mainland, which is about 2.2 million people. New West is totally urban except Queen Elizibeth park. Ain't a fucking moose for miles.

14. Tim McCarver is another 5 tool idiot
Good player, bad sportscaster...and they team him up with the sanctimonious, Derek Jeter worshipping, John Buck!

I also get mad at Tim McCarver's stupid comments about the Twins. He seems to have a resentment about the fact that the Twins beat the Cards in the 1987 WS.

He really knows the game and can be silly sometimes which I like since a lot of sportscasters take themselves way to seriously.

Herb Score- Cleveland Indians play by play guy for 32 years; retired in 97- I loved this guy; he probably saw more bad baseball than anybody had a right to for the majority of his time calling Indians games, but he's the voice of my sports youth.

Worst- Brian Hall, the guy who does the play by play of Edmonton Eskimos CFL games- Picture Grandpa Simpson doing play by play and you only have a glimpse at how horrible this guy is.

I listen in when they play Clevo, and ugh. Too bad you can't listen to Tom Hamilton, the Indians play by play guy; he sounds like he's downed a gallon on java before he goes on and practically has a breakdown when they win..

21. Great minds think alike Jimmy Jazz, Jim McKay was an
outstanding broadcaster. I'll never forget his coverage of the Israeli hostage crisis during the Munich Olympics.

As for Wide World of Sports, I grew up on that show. It was must-see TV in our house every Saturday afternoon.

Another one of my faves is Dick Button. I know a lot of people cannot stand Uncle Dick, but he will always be to me the voice of American figure skating. I just love his Buttonisms. Sometimes he is just too funny....

19. Vin Scully
I know he's getting up there in age, but it was one of the reasons I would watch Dodger games. I enjoyed his story telling way of broadcasting. Here are a few others: Bob Costas (especially at Olympics time), Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. I know what you mean about Joe Buck kneeling at the altar of Derek Jeter. He probably worships at the Yankees altar. I have a comment about that, but it is of a sexual nature.

22. I love watching Dan Patrick
on Sports Center. When Olbermann was on there with him they were the best on the air.

I also used to love listening to the guy who did play-by-play for Tennessee football.

"Give him six!!!...TOUCHDOWN Tennessee!!!"

Classic.

26. Keith Jackson doing college football is the first that ...
comes to mind. He IS college football. I especially liked him when he was paired up with Ara Parseghian in the mid-'70s.

As for NFL, I love John Madden. He's a NorCal boy and, I think, a Democrat.

For national baseball telecasts, Morgan and Miller. But I actually like Tim McCarver; hate the sanctimonious young Joe Buck.

For local baseball (retired), Lon Simmons, Hall of Famer. I grew up listening to his broadcasts of the Giants. Urbane, wry sense of humor.

No one comes to mind for present-day basketball either college or NBA (maybe because it's not in season). The Billy Packer-Al McGuire pairing in the mid- to late '70s was great.

Old-time greats on my list: Curt Gowdy, Joe Garagiola-Tony Kubek, Jim McKay.

Can someone please tell me what's the big deal about the late Harry Caray? I think it's a Chicago thing.

32. Henry Blofeld - Test Match Special on the B.B.C.
You have to get into the whole idea of cricket commentary - the match goes on for 5 days, and there can be periods without much happening, so the commentators really just have to talk about random nonsense to fill the time. Bloers is such an expert at this - he can talk for a good half-hour about a flock of pigeons sitting in the out-field, or a cake he was sent by a lady in Tunbridge Wells - and it never gets boring or tedious.

The sport becomes almost incidental to the passing of an idyllic day in the sun - but when he talks about the cricket, it's a subject he's been immersed in for so many years that he's relating first-hand accounts of famous matches played 40 years ago, as though they were just in last summers series.
