I was watching Real Time when it happened. I saw Hackett. First time ever. Damn, that guy is cool.

The panel discussion was on with the two repugs and Chris Rock, with his gas fetish. Blondie was busy blowing smoke up Maher's ass when the lights went out.

I missed that wrinkled hag SHAFT-FLY completely.

3. I couldn't tell ya

I almost exclusively read all my news etc. Very little radio tv or anything else. I never watch any of that stuff.

Hackett is a cool guy, I pretty much have only seen pics of him etc, but the only tv stuff I normally watch is the Sunday morning shows and they had a little bit about the Ohio campaign a few weeks ago. I really stand up guy. You being a vet, probably identify more with that aspect then I ever could, but the guy has some serious charisma. He's pretty salty too, I don't see him backing down from anybody. Ever. Need more Dems like that. For sure.

But he has shown that once the uniform comes off, the gloves can come off too.

We need a lot more vets like him taking the forefront for truth and justice.

It's tough on guys who have to do their duty whether they like it or not or whether they believe in it or not. Especially if the your overall mission isn't properly defined. You can't fault active guys from not speaking out much. But, Hackett has shown that once you take that uniform off you can still serve your country in other ways. I hope he gets some vets riled up and ready to take a stand. It'd be great thing. I do know some people totally drink the Kool-Aid. Younger guys especially. Probably my best friend for the last several years served in the Army, he was over in Bosnia in '95. This guy is totally anti-Clinton. He speaks RW lies all the time. It's wild. He's a good guy, but totally indoctrinated. He doesn't like Clinton for things that Republicans did, haha. Go figure. I hope that enough vets can see through all that BS and come out and fight for the truth and for what's right. Guys like Stan Goff, Hackett, etc. People like yourself, Left_Winger, others on DU. We need all the voices we can get.

One thing thing that I've realized about the Kool-Aid drinkers is that lot of them are confused. Really confused about everything. They're confused in thinking that everything the administration does is in the best interests of the country and its people.

"Hey if George Bush wants to invade Iraq, he must be doing for a good reason, he's the president and I support him. " They spout off bullshit like that without giving it a moment's thought.

When I ask this one second looey why he thought we invaded Iraq, he pulled this excuse out his ass that really surprised the fuck out of me.

He used an amorphous standard of "Justice" that he couldn't define. Like holding Iraq responsible for 9-11, when A. There was no direct involvement with it and none the attackers were Iraqis and B. He has holding a basket case responsible for the the actions of others.

He was also looking forward to the day when the US could actually make on this debacle. Carnage and destruction of the war withstanding.

I could literally see the cynicism dripping from his lips.

impossible to argue with people that inane. You just can't, because facts don't matter to some people.

I think many people just refuse to believe that a president might do something for a very shitty reason. Part of our national myth is that we stand for Freedom, Integrity, We Are The Bastion of Light, etc. People can't handle that this might not always be true. We're a great country, no doubt, but guys like Bush and his ilk are not what made us a great country. Cloaking yourself in religion and a flag, while you scurry around like a cowardly scoundrel isn't exactly honorable. That this chickenshit is the face of the USA around the world is really embarrassing. On the domestic front it's a downright tragedy.

People would rather be oblivious than to look deep and find all of that out.

I was going to get a haircut yesterday too. I ended up falling asleep and didn't wake up until like 4:30 in the afternoon. Oops.

When one hit us two years ago, we were out of power for almost a week.

23. We were out of power for a week in 1999, when Hurricane Floyd hit.

When we bought the house ... it came with a generator, which I thought was odd ... until I had to call someone to start the damn old thing several times that first winter - ten years ago. The next summer I bought a much larger generator with a push button start ... now ... all I need to do is keep its battery charged and we're good to go.



buy big - with more power if you can ... it's nice to cook without turning off lights

25. It's worth the investment if you own your home.

I'll be the first to tell you ... generators are expensive.. The smaller ones start around $600, which is better than nothing until you can afford something bigger. Run just the basics if that's all you can afford. Cooking can always be done outside over a grill, it's keeping food from spoiling that's the important thing. Our power company gives out bags of ice when we have prolonged outages, I'm sure it helps a little. I prefer to be self sufficient. I'm building my own fortress, everyone is welcome to bring a sleeping bag and share the light ~
