Yup. Old hetero muthafuckas who think we were the spawns of satan holding hands and having a great time talking...

Man, their priorities are warped...

1. Well you are! How dare you be happy. Be a miserable fuck like the
rest of the dried up breeders.

16. I am so envious of countries that are more accepting...
The US is really in a regressive stage, althought the tolerance that is present among the majority (I DO still believe that the case) is also totally misrepresented by the media and those who exploit for political gain.

Having said that, I really detest hearing people refer to heterosexuals as "breeders." Women bear children and it rings as the most misogynistic comment, even if not meant that way, suggesting a devaluation of some humans as one only of reproduction. I wish those who use it here on DU would think about it. It offends me tremendously and I know it does others.

You and Greekspeak could unabashedly hold hands around Mr. Heidi and me. Love is a good thing and we like being around people who are in love.

7. I'm so liberal that I wouldn't even worry about you
recruiting Ginger into the "gay lifestyle." (I once heard someone say that about one of my lesbian friends: that my friend would recruit me into the "lesbian lifestyle." The only thing that saved that bigot's life is that I'm a pacifist. )

 I like who you are, Clintmax.

10. You know, Clintmax, I wonder if some of what you're getting...
is because people don't understand how you have the ability to not let society tell you what is and isn't acceptable. I think that it really scares people anytime someone "breaks the rules".

I'm married and don't use my husband's last name. Most people don't care about this, but some people just have a really difficult time with it.

Bottom line, I like this quote (not sure who said it): "Our only obligation in any lifetime is to be true to ourselves."

I hope that mass consciousness changes soon so that society encouraged us to be true to ourselves.

the proverbial box. I am older than my husband and that freaks people out. Even some DU'ers have trouble with it. So my answer to that is  They can just get the hell over it.:hi:

I know how much courage it takes to not allow the majority to tell you how to live your life and to do it in public. You deserve to take your love with you anywhere you go and show it when the spirit moves you.

Good for you. :)

I don't see what the big deal is. We have such silly standards compared to other societies in the world. It makes me think of how two guys are timid about hugging each other because it makes them "seem gay". Oy.

20. I don't understand people's priorities
People who have no problem with fighting and using horrible language in front of their kids but are offended by people showing affection towards each other. :wtf:

The other day there was a letter to Dear Abby in which the guy who wrote was complaining that his neighbor insisted on displaying a *gasp* gay pride rainbow flag in his yard. "This is a family oriented neighborhood," the guy huffed, "and our children don't need to be exposed to such things."

A rainbow?

Tell me, what little kid even knows the significance of the rainbow flag (unless their homophobic father is warning them to stay away from the "perv" who lives in that house)?

Ignorant mouth breathers.

Incidentally, Abby basically told him off..........

23. This world just has a long way to go. Last year when my wife and I were
in London on vacation, we were dining in a pub. There was an elderly tourist couple sitting near us, presumably from some French speaking country since that's what they were speaking, and the male kept staring at us in a most unpleasant way. Since we were normally dressed and just eating our dinner, not doing anything, I can only assume it was due to the fact that I am of Asian descent and my wife is white.

This continued through the whole meal. I probably should have gone over to ask the guy if there was some kind of problem. I'm guessing he was probably some old racist fart who thought "we should have taken care of all you yellow bastards in Indochina" or whatever. It definitely had a negative impact on our meal and I should have said something but let it go.

My boyfriend and I hold hands in public, also. We love each other...why shouldn't we?

It always brings a smile on my face to see two guys or two women holding hands. It's beautiful. :-)

25. y'all come hold hands and sit by me. I'll kick 'em in the shins
for you. Some sad and angry people have a really cranky outlook on happy people. We have couples of all varieties at our church and simple affections are good for everyone. My kids didn't realize that some people see differences between gay and straight couples until about 5th grade. damn public schools.
