Do you believe in near-death/out of body experiences?
I do. :)

I think I had a sleep paralysis dream rather than an NDE, unless my heart stopped while I was sleeping.. but that would have been unlikely for the healthy 21 year old I was at the time. All I know is that it felt very real and when I woke up I was very confused to be in a bed and not in the place of my dream.

In my dream I was running through the field behind my folks' house. I felt, rather than saw two beings alongside me. (They were not visible to the naked eye, but I knew they were there.)

They told me (in my head, not with spoken voices) to, "Jump. JUMP!"

I told them I didn't understand what they meant. So as we were running along one got in front of me and pulled and the other got behind and pushed and I felt this horrible "ripping" sensation of my soul leaving my body that was felt like it was both only an instant and eternal. It didn't hurt exactly, but was very much like the old fingernails on a blackboard feeling.

And then it was over and I was in a place of complete blackness. My guides were gone, but I realized then that I was in what looked very much like a picture of a magenta-colored space nebula, minus all the stars. I was part of the nebula and it was part of me. And I was myself, but at the same time I could feel and hear many others there too. We were ONE but individuals at the same time. I could not tell where I ended and they began.

And it was blissfully content there. So much peace and happiness.

Now, I cannot tell anyone what this was. A visit to heaven? A dream about it? Maybe a waystation where you go while you wait for judgement? I don't know. I do know that I did not experience a judgement, but maybe I was not there long enough to do so.

Anyway, it certainly changed my idea of heaven being a middle eastern city with streets of gold and choirs of angels singing on every corner.

1. yes
your experience is far different from what I have experienced, except for the feeling of peace, happiness, and content. I think our way of getting to what I call Unity are many and varied, but the Place to which we go is the same.

2. Having had two NDE's
yes, I believe in them but the dream you describe sounds much more as though you momentarily merged with what some would describe as your "spiritual source."

You can visualize that nebula in a meditative state whenever you need some spiritual sustinance.

You're very fortunate to have experienced this breakthrough relatively early in life. I know others who have meditated for years and never arrived at such an experience.

10. Well
various traditions have varying names for it but that's just the phrase that I prefer, and what I've always called it. Maybe I'll try googling as well just to see if I gave you you a bum steer.

Hope not.

5. My "flying" dreams have a large element of that...
I visit real places and fly around.

I've had several of those recently.

9. I watched my kidney operation
years ago, when I was 19.

I saw the doctors lifting my intestines to get to my kidneys. I was not familiar enough with anatomy at the time to know that this was what they had to do.

This was a brief exit from the body, but I believe it was real and not dreamed.

11. Wow! I know a woman who saw her operation as well. And I think my dad
had some sort of experience where he was aware of what was happening, but that may have been the anaesthesia where off. He did have OBEs as a kid, though.

14. Yes.
When I was much younger I got sick and I was perscribed some sort of penicillin product. I mixed this with some other cold remedy called Trimenicol...it was made by the same people that make Triminic (a great product). It turned out that Trimenicol had something in it that I was allergic to...almost deadly allergic...

I can remember being on the phone with my girlfriend at the time...I was floating above myself...I could see my body on the bed curled up in the fetal position with the phone to my ear. It was completely weird.
