I Need Help Deciding Between Two Potential Job Offers

I may have two different job offers, and I need a little help deciding between the two:

JOB A: Will pay double what JOB B will pay. However, it will be 8 times the work. This job is really 8 different jobs in one. This job will require splitting time between NY and DC. This job will require heavy administrative and field work. In most offices, this job would be done by at least two people. Finally, there are no hard plans to hire any additional help any time soon.

JOB B: Will pay less than JOB A. This job does not pay overtime, though some OT will be required. There is a chance that OT will get heavy, but there will be a full staff around me. There's some admin work, but I will be able to stay in NYC for the most part.

JOB A pays $85,000 plus overtime.

JOB B pays $90,000 no overtime, but overtime may get heavy.

1. Money aside, which one appeals to you more?

Gas isn't going down, so having to travel is going to cost you more.

5. JOB A Would Pay for the Travel

However, the time commitment for JOB A is enormous. There will be long stretches of time when I will be in another city working 24/7.

2. I realize this may not help much but flip a coin. Say heads it's

Job A and tails it's Job B. Whatever side comes up, do you want to flip it again.

Also, do you wish you had a three sided coin?

3. First, I hate you. And second, it sounds like you really want job B.

I don't *really* hate you, LOL--when my crowd says it, it's out of jealousy. Either one is over double what I make. I'm sure you've worked for it though. But still! Pain!

Second, you sound like you've already made the decision, but are looking to convince yourself that turning down double the salary is okay. It is. Job A sounds like a lot of stress and irritation. If you need the money that's one thing, but if you will be comfortable (and SANE) with 90 grand (ugh!) I'd take Job B.

and $90,000 is like $40,000 in most other places.

4. Mr. blm's loss of overtime pay this year has already lost us about $8000..

Thanks to Bush's new rules. Will probably add up to about 11,000 by the end of the year.

You would need to assess how much you would stand to lose, in that case.

7. That's What Is Freaking Me Out About JOB B

I could be losing a fortune by taking JOB B. However, there will be a staff of at least 5 or 6 people around me, so the work load shouldn't be as great as JOB A.

9. I guess it also comes down to how well you travel. If it's as easy as

breathing to you, that's one factor, but, most people don't deal well with constant travel as easily today as they did just 5 years ago.

I used to do the NY - LA thing for many years and it never bothered me much. I doubt I could maintain that pace in today's world.

No contest.

I'd take Job B in a heartbeat. Time, health and the ability to actually HAVE some life is worth a lot more than the money Job A will pay.
