Tonight my long-distance relationship reached its most difficult point, because Mr. Fricasseed Gourmet Rat is currently 2500 miles away and was going to be climbing several mountains with his friends. He does this a lot, but usually he's back by 6:00 PM Mountain time (8:00 PM Eastern time, which is where I am).
I was so worried when the clock hit 11:00 PM (9:00 PM Mountain) and I still hadn't heard from him. I really, really, really started to worry. He's a very athletic 20-something, a very experienced hiker and climber, and he's smart enough to not do anything TOO stupid. But I was insanely nervous and couldn't concentrate on anything.
Then I got an e-mail from his mom. He'd called her and asked her to e-mail me to tell her that he's okay and that he'd be home in about two hours. And that meant the world to me, since I'd felt so helpless and knew I wouldn't be able to get an ounce of sleep until I heard from him. And luckily this long-distance relationship will be short-distance rather soon.
Anybody else want to share experiences that amounted to "THANK YOU GOD, BECAUSE I KNOW THERE IS A GOD NOW, OR MAYBE SOME FORM OF OMNIPRESENT DIVINITY, AND I AM UTTERLY UNBELIEVABLY THANKFUL AND NOW I WILL SACRIFICE THIS GOAT OR MAYBE NOT BUT YOU GET THE GIST OF IT" -- ??
