Most embarrassing word that slipped out of your mouth - come on...
Okay - ran into someone and mentioned a friend and that her boyfriend was really short. Have no idea why I said that - other than being painfully shy and word challenged. I was 23.

3. I don't think I have ever used a word that could not be posted on a
liberal message board.

2. When I was in 1st grade
the other kids used to make fun of the teacher's figure behind her back. I felt sorry for her, so I wrote her a note:

Dear Mrs. Cavanaugh,

I don't think you are fat.

Love,
Brenda

6. mortifying, but here it is....
As a child, I used the N word.

But as soon as I saw "Mississppi Burning", and woke up to the fact that my mother had raised me to be a racist, I said "NO MORE!" and became a liberal.

I still feel nauseated that that word ever escaped my lips.

My dear fudge stripe cookays!
You could NOT help using that word as a child! Please don't blame yourself...

The fact that you changed after seeing that movie is wonderful...

You did grow up and realize your racist heritage...and you did SOMETHING about it!

CONGRATULATIONS! :applause: :woohoo: :woohoo: :applause:

24. Thanks CP!
The best thing was that after I changed, I got my mom to change too.

That's been my biggest victory in life....changing an unrepentant racist Republican into a Deaniac!

14. I didn't know what the N word meant. When I read that book by Harper
Lee I pronounced the N word as the country (Niger - you know yellowcake). Never used the word. Never heard it used except in French once (in a huge beer hall - I'm in Canada - and I started screaming at the person who insulted one of my gang). I think I might just faint if I heard it.

but it was embarassing. i was THINKING something that someone apparently heard.

i was thinking

"if you need somewhere to sleep tonight, let me know"

and they heard it, cept i didn't say it out loud. i projected my thought to them and they caught it

it was embarassing, especially hearing later that he knew about it.

8. I once said motherfucker
at one of my parents' dinner parties. Really bad thing - the guy I called a motherfucker I actually really liked. I called my best friend's best friend's wife a cunt at another dinner party. But she forgave me and thinks I'm handsome and charming.

12. Well I really felt bad
about calling Kristen that word. I really didn't mean anything by it but it upset her. So I took her out to dinner and apologized profusely.

We had dinner again recently but got 86ed from the restaraunt because she said "Remember when you called me...." Very loudly.

Her husband tried to cover it up by discussing his masturbatory habits and kissing me. It didn't work - we got thrown out.

Khash.

10. On the phone with my grandmother
I said "fucking". I'm 32 years old, and this just happened a month ago. I didn't realize I'd said it, it just flew out of my mouth. This 77 year old woman went off on me. "I shudder to think how your children speak!" Of course, she's appalled that they say "fart".

19. Years ago my husband and I were driving
through a big parking lot with his very elderly, very proper grandmother in the back seat. When someone stopped short right in front of us, my husband hit the breaks and yelled "asshole." She pretended not to notice, but I'm sure her opinion of him went way down. When we're in that area even today, we still laugh about it.

15. Once when I was about 13 or so
I was with one of our family friends, a girl who was about 15. I had heard about his particular word at school or something, but didn't know anything about what it meant.

So I was thinking about this word when i was alone with hera and all of a sudden I blurted out the word "Slut".

This surprised me more than it did her, but after she she was over being shocked she told me the meaning of the word very patiently. I'm sure she didn't take it as an insult, because as I said it and saw her reaction, I was extremely embarrassed. Mortified.

She remained my friend (1 of 5 girls in the family) and I still think about her because she lives near me now and I haven't looked her up.

Still, I'll always remember that day that I shocked myself.

18. My bad German.
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 01:16 AM by Heidi
At a family dinner here, a few years ago, I meant to say, "I'm no young woman" in German. What I said, instead, was, "I'm virgin." This incident forever burned in my mind the difference between "jungefrau" (young woman) and jungfrau (virgin).

And little kids have _loooooong_ memories about stuff like that. My goddaughters have, on more than one occasion, introduced me to other family members as, "This is Heidi. She's no virgin."

28. I know.
I know it's funny. And I love that my goddaughters have such good memories for my faux pas, and that they speak enough languages (German, Swiss-German, Italian, northern Italian dialect, English, English "southern speak," and French) to make fun of me. They're only 11 and 13 years old, but geez, are they hip. Gotta love girls like that; they grow up to be "no bullsh!t" women.

27. Does mispronunciation count?
I was tagged to read a send-off speech at a retirement dinner. Someone else wrote it and handed it to me as I was being introduced. No excuse tho', anyway I read epitome as epee-tome instead of e-pit-o-me.

34. My father once spent an entire evening
Walking around pronouncing the word facade as fa-KADE. He'd read it somewhere and liked it, thought he'd trot it out and impress all his friends with his erudition and mangled the word. I and my stepmother just stood back and let him make an idiot of himself - it's one of my fondest memories.

35. I've told this one before but it's a classic
Senior year of high school we read two Shakespeare plays: Macbeth and Hamlet.

One has a character named Fleance and the other Horatio.

Well, during an exam I was struggling to find the name of a character and combined the "Fl" in Fleance and the "-atio" in Horatio, knew it sounded vaguely familiar and wrote it as my answer...

After my teacher and parents all realized it really was an accident, we had a good laugh.
