SI.com: "Bush showed Armstrong sites he calls a little slice of heaven"
'He's a good rider'
President, Armstrong take spin on 'Tour de Crawford'
Posted: Saturday August 20, 2005 5:16PM; Updated: Saturday August 20, 2005, 7:47PM

WACO, Texas (AP) -- It's no yellow jersey, but President Bush on Saturday presented Lance Armstrong with another shirt to show off his biking experiences -- a red, white and blue T-shirt emblazoned "Tour de Crawford."

The leader of the free world and the world's biking master rode for 17 miles on Bush's ranch for about two hours at midmorning. Bush showed Armstrong the sites of the ranch that he calls "a little slice of heaven," including a stop at a waterfall midway through the ride.

They were accompanied by a small group of staff and Secret Service agents and a film crew from the Discovery Channel, Armstrong's Tour de France sponsor, which had exclusive media access for the ride. Footage was shot for a program on Armstrong to air this week.

Neither Bush nor Armstrong spoke to reporters, although White House spokesman Trent Duffy said the president was impressed with the seven-time champ's skills.

1. Bush was "impressed" by Armstrongs skills....
Lance dragged two dozen cinder blocks and an SUV filled with Secret Service agents in an effort to keep pace with pResident Bush....

6. Shrub should enter the Tour de France...
And Lance should run the country. Fair trade, I think.

7. More "I'm just like you, Middle America!"
"I am proud of my acreage and love it so and love to show kindly folk around it and I will brag about and then go home after a nice hard bike ride and Laura will have a warm apple pie just out of the oven!"

If anyone is so naive to think that these "off the cuff" remarks are anything but plotted, planned and rehearsed then you are in denial. IT is a stage show.

10. David Kreuter went for a very
different kind of ride today, didn't he? And he didn't speak to reporters, either, because he couldn't. His "little slice of heaven" is now Spring Grove Cemetary. His family is no doubt devastated.

Meanwhile, the man who put him there, the one on vacation in Crawford, enjoys a bike ride as he gears up for a vacation from his vacation this coming week in Idaho.

And people still support the bastard? To quote Pete Seeger, "When will they ever learn?"
