My brothers & sisters: I can love food again!
Turns out that I'm just very, very lactose-intolerant. Due to prohibitions on discussion of bodily functions I can't go into any detail on the problems I was running into (and wouldn't want to particularly anyway) but rest assured that they were grave and alarming. However, a few days of avoiding dairy indicate that this is indeed the problem. Now while I'll miss pizza, cheesy pasta dishes, and a host of other favorite foods, and I'll probably have to carry Lact-Aid with me to restaurants against the contingency of vegetables sauteed in butter, I think the state of war between me and my body and food can be said to be over. Yaaaaaaaaay!

3. Glad you found out! Here's a couple of sites
that might help you make some good food choices. You'll still need to get your calcium be careful not to deprive yourself of proper nutrition.

Yeah, I went right out and got calcium supplement tablets, since even the vitamin supplements for women over 50 only give 25% of the RDA of calcium. Also orange juice with calcium, which ought to make up the rest. We think my girlfriend is also lactose intolerant; maybe someday I can wean her from her ice cream addiction.:)

6. awesome you have things under control
I've never had a problem with lactose until I had WLS in March. Now milk products 'upset' my system. My son who is 22 now, had a terrible problem with lactose intolerance as a child. The Dr tested him for everything under the sun imagineable, but not lactose intolerance!!!! grrrrrr..
poor child went through hell and as his parents we were lost as to how to deal with some of the situations that were presenting themselves. I took him to a homeopath and we talked a LOT about food allergies, turns out lactose intolerance was only part of it, he was also allergic to yeast, wheat and a host of other additives. He seems to have grown out of a lot of these problems and is enjoying good health.

5. that happened to me and i couldn't figure out what was wrong
and slowly by eliminating foods it finally dawned on me that I'm lactose intolerant. My family is especially glad--as you can imagine that i figured out what was going on considering they have to live with me.

7. My gf is thrilled for similar reasons
as well as the possibility that I might quit being a whinybutt about going out to restaurants.
