Now how does THIS happen? (Two people on foot hit by train)

I've heard about cars getting struck by trying to beat a train at a crossing, but how do two people ON FOOT get hit by a train??

Two people were struck by a Norfolk Southern train in Clay Township in the early morning Sunday. The Scioto County Sheriff’s Department along with Rosemount and Rubyville Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the call.

The two individuals involved were on foot when they met with the train. An 18-year-old female victim was Med-flighted to an undisclosed hospital. The other pedestrian involved was pronounced dead at the scene by the Scioto County coroner.

1. Was the female tied to the tracks?

Did the male have a big, handlebar mustache, and was he rubbing his hands together in evil glee at her plight, but mistakenly standing too close the the tracks himself?

I'm just asking.

a friend of a friend was killed that way - walking along the tracks listening to music...never heard the train coming. :(
