Let me say one thing about my pick-up Thread......

I have always been completely up front with all the friends and lovers I have had....

But I survive, no thrive on humor and wit...

All of those answers to that question, what do you do, were spontaneous and ended up in a very very very entertaining night and fairly long affair...

I didn't lie, I just didn't want our time together to be spent comparing my job or her job or any of that other crap when the spirit of passion should have been the only think on our minds....

It was my way of defusing the tried and true...

Like when I first started out trying to "pick" up women at college and you would say what's you major...

Well, after a while, I started saying Animal Husbandry, wanna see what I learned today....

It's all about refocusing the story of the moment into the moment and not the expectations or adult fantasies we have all worked out inside our minds....

And, BTW, I agree with your sentiments...People need to focus on what's happening in the moment, and steer clear of whatever expectations or fantasies they might bring to that moment.

One should start with a tabula rasa, to coin a phrase..The empty slate on which can be written a whole new story of the two people involved...
