I have a friend who works at Starbucks
My friend says he does it only for the benefits.

Should I worry about him?

Should I tell his wife?

3. Starbucks is Blue
benefits are to be expected of Blue companies, naturally. ;-)

6. Health care coverage for part time employees
Educational benefit for part time employees
Vacation pay
A pound of coffee free each week

Starbucks employees, I know you're out there, and I know that there are other benefits I don't know about...

10. Starbucks is a blue company
They offer unbelievable benefits to their employees, as does Costco. I realize that there are people here who don't care for Starbucks; that's fine. I'll keep patronizing them because I know that they are paying a good wage to their employees, giving outstanding benefits, and trying to be responsible corporate citizens by seeking out "free trade" coffee and the like.

11. thanks, Julie.
I know all that. I was just making a stupid "friends with benefits" joke that *nobody* got.

I really do have a friend who works there strictly for the benefits. He brings home about $85 a week in pay, but has no benefits at his other "job" teaching guitar.

I was just startled by the idea that Starbucks has benefits (of any kind).

I'll do my best to read more carefully next time! :hi:

I'm so glad that your friend makes a bit of money and is covered by the health insurance, etcetera. One thing's for sure, it would be so much better if there was a universal plan for everyone, wouldn't it?

19. that is a fact
he and I are music partners, playing frequently as a duo

we've had to curtail our performance schedule somewhat so he can work the early shift at Starbucks that accommodates his teaching schedule. It's a balancing act for him.

13. Argh. I need benefits!!!
But my town doesn't have a Starbucks! (For which I am usually very glad. We have great independent coffee shops.)

No Costco either.

This is New York state, and I think companies with good benefits are reluctant to come here; insurance premiums are through the fricking roof.

4. They have good benefits but they fight unionization
However, the method they use to fight unionization is to offer better benefits than a union would.

12. Unions exist to make sure that workers are treated fairly
because many were not treated well.

If all companies had good employment practices, unions would be unnecessary.

5. Starbucks has great benefits...
I just read an article yesterday comparing there benefits to Wal-mart...basically calling Walmart out on there uber-cheap ways. Says that Starbucks had a business model they can follow, give good benefits and still grow and make a profit.

to lazy to find the link..sorry
