Marching band members past and present - roll call
The local high school band is in the stadium running through their opening show. I'm lucky enough to live very close to the stadium and love the evening serenades. If you were/are a marching band member tell us what you played.

cmd - trumpet in a really bad high school band

My best dates in high school were w/ drummers.
And the drummer girls-we used to share black eyeliner and cigarettes.

15. Trombone
In the high school band in my home town and one fall season in Sheffield Alabama where football was king.

I left in the eleventh year (1951) to join the navy. The second day or so in boot camp we were asked if "Anybody play a musical instrument?" Several of us wound up in the marching band. At one time there were sixteen trombones.

Fun. Stars and Stripes Forever-over and over and over, like forever man!

16. Flute. I didn't want to be in the freaking marching band
but you had to participate if you wanted to be in the concert band, which was the only thing available at my high school (no orchestra). Gawds, I hated marching band.

31. Third trumpet ...
Freshman year in high school. Totally got into it ... you all know the feeling.

Then the cool band teacher left and another replaced. I quit a couple of weeks into my sophomore year ... followed by half the band over the next couple of months.

It was cool while I did it, but I'm glad I didn't turn out to be a band geek.

33. I knew there had to be a band director among us.
That was my son-in-laws original calling. Now he is a firefighter and plays bagpipes........and bassoon, accordian, tin whistle, piano, and any thing else that appears on e-bay. I dearly love him.

Have a great season.

38. French Horn here
pretty good at the instrument, and didn't mind marching as a unit, but I was so bad at doing formations on the football field during half time, that I put the guy who choreagraphed them into fits. We were stuck though, I couldn't get an A in my band class if I didn't participate.

45. Flute and piccolo in a really good marching band
We had a total school population of about 600 and over 200 were in the marching and concert bands.

Now the high school is something like 1500 total and they have less than 100 in the band -- and it's lousy.
