My son starts eighth grade tomorrow, and I feel OLD!

God, where in the hell does the time go, anyway? One minute he's a cute, cuddly little baby who loves to be rocked to sleep, the next he's a teenager taller than you, who's about to start junior high!

We're living apart right now, since I moved to Rapid City, SD, at the end of May to take a paralegal job at a legal services agency, and he's still living with my parents back in Ohio (we agreed that'd be best for him right now). That makes it even harder, I miss him unbearably at times. It's a good thing work keeps me so busy (a LOT of travel, coupled with much hard work), so I don't have a lot of time to think about it. I talk to him on the phone, and his voice sounds so deep it's hard to believe it's really him. We've never been apart this long before.

But, God, I CANNOT believe he's starting 8th grade tomorrow! It feels like yesterday I was taking him to his first day of kindergarten, and then first grade. And at that time, he was a lot shorter than me, lol! Sheesh, first I turn forty and now he's starting junior high! :wow: :wow: :wow: :scared: :scared: :scared:

but we've had a few really bad behavior problems pop up recently. She started therapy today because of her behaviors.

That's always hard to deal with, especially when they're so young. My son is fourteen, and was finally diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a type of high-functioning autism, when he was seven and in the first grade. It explained a lot, and once we knew what it was we knew what to do about it and it helped him a lot.

He's the one who chose not to see her. I've never stopped him. But that's really hard to explain to a five year old.

10. Mine starts kindergarten in a couple weeks.

She's the second, and last child, so it is bittersweet. No more little tiny people, but, in a way, I don't have it in me to deal with a baby/toddler anymore.

When I first had my son, I always hoped for and wanted to have more kids; I thought I'd get married and do it the "normal" way. But that never happened, and I had to have a hysterectomy a few years ago, at 37. I admit to still feeling a twinge once in awhile when I see a baby or toddler, and realize that I'll never have any more. But then I realize just how hard it really is to deal with babies and toddlers, and I don't think I could do that again, it would just be too much.

19. Yes - I have several online friends with 99ers.

Mine was born December 28, 1999 - and the hospital where I gave birth was at full capacity every day that week. Apparently, there were several couples trying for "the Millennium Baby".

I just wanted a baby - it never crossed my mind what the timing would mean! My original due date was 12/31/99.

21. Mine was June 17,2000.

I didn't even think about it being 2000 or anything but I know many people who did.
I visited quite a few friends in the hospital who had babies in 99/00 and it was always full to capacity. I was shipped out to a swing room between maternity and med-surg because of an overflow of women having babies.
And my daughter's school had to hire more staff just to handle all of the kids starting this fall.

My parents are supposed to be driving out with him in September, at least that's the plan now. I hope so, because if they don't, that means I likely won't see him until Christmas and that's an awful long time for both of us!

8. How do you think I feel? My son starts COLLEGE in two weeks!

No wonder I'm coloring my hair tonight. My daughter and I put together a collage of pictures for his graduation party. It was amazing seeing all 18 years represented on one (very large) poster board. Where does the time go? One more year and my daughter will be in high school, and once they're in high school you can just kiss those four years goodbye...it's like one big blur.

All this and I'm still only 28! :evilgrin:

She's out of high school, but she's not entering college this fall. She's already changed her mind three times about what college she wants to attend.

My oldest is 18.
My second is 5½, about to start kindergarten.
My youngest is 3½, about to start his first year of preschool.

My son is 33yrs old. When I look back, the first five years went by pretty slowly. But, once he started school, the years flew by. And--flew by faster once he hit his twenties. But--it's all good. We have them to raise. We can't complain if they actually grow up in front of our eyes.

and both of his parents are older then some of his classmates' grandparents, but he makes us feel young and very cool. We are enjoying and savoring every moment. :)
