Hep A--Generally transmitted via the GI tract. That's why there are often food associated outbreaks like the one at Chi Chi's (?Pittsburgh) recently. Even though you get sick as a dog from it, almost everyone recovers fully eventually with no permanent harm. Hep C--Transmitted primarily bloodborne, and can be transmitted through needles (injection drug use and shared needles, or medical needlestick accidents), body piercing, contaminated tattoo needles. Sexual transmission also occurs. Hep C is MUCH more transmissible tha HIV for instance. Also, once infected with Hep C, the chance of chronic disease leading to cirrhosis and liver failure is extremely high compared with Hep B. And, there is no vaccine against it.

How my ex got it was he was in Mexico and he probably caught it there. Could have been from the food he ate or ........

I won't get into the whole ugly story of us being split up and he wanted me back when got back from Mexico with that cheap little slut he hardly knew and realized when he was there that he should have been with me and not the little whore and then came home and called me up and wanted to have dinner and he told me he was still in love with me and he made a big mistake by breaking up with me and we went back to my place and had wild passionate sex.

What was I talking about? Oh yeah anyway he got sick first. He called me up and told me what was wrong and I freaked. When to the doctor and got tested. Negative on HepA, HIV and all the rest. A few days later I was at work and was planning on going over and take care of him .... all of a sudden I felt like shit. It was Friday and my doctor was gone for the day and I left him a message. When over the semi boyfriend's place and we both looked like hell. I thought I might just have the flu. I went home and all weekend I was sick. I saw my doc on Monday and he figured that when I took the blood test I was in the incubation period. Took the test again and sho' nuff. I had it. Yaller eyes and all.

It's funny (funny strange not ha-ha) but I got it worse than my questioning boyfriend. I was laid up for almost a month. Lost a TON of weight and at the time I could not afford it.

It was not a pretty sight.

So you could have gotten if you and your boyfriend ate the same contaminated food, or if you came into contact with his feces after he had developed it---not hard to do through sex and just general daily contact, especially if you live with the person or share the same facilities as they do.
